and yes, your second question is the perfect segway. i do have backup plan to all KEY players. for instance if i really want torii hunter and the bidding gets to high, i will wait on a corey hart who will be much cheaper and will likely go for under my custom auction value...meaning more % profit

what do you think? he's dead to me unless he can get his walks under control. if you remember a year ago or two, he had knee surgery and has never had the control that he had in the majors or minors.

if his BB are under control (watch spring training), he moves up my board quickly. he was/is a top talent, ace quality.

GG,

Yes you have my name right. I appreciate the honesty on the auction questions. It's going to be interesting with the new Auction championship this year seeing how many different strategies are out there, it will be fun to evaluate the top teams and see how they acquired their team. GG, will you be playing in that new 5 letter league that was introduced a few weeks ago? Not mentioning the name due to the respect I have for Greg.

i'm doing the $1,300 mixed auction (which is part of the 15K overall championship), however there are more sharks in that league than the typical $800 auction league.

What's the most leagues you've ever done?

What's the most leagues you think you could handle without passing the point of diminishing returns?

1. i'm out of money

2. i don't want to have to learn and play a game with a different format

3. no time left for me to manage more faab teams

also,i'm not doing any 12 team leagues either. the faab pools are entirely different than the 15 team leagues and require too much sunday time to manage.

for me it's reyes there's plenty of them.

reyes, slowey, gallardo, liriano pitching against major leaguers and not double A and 17 year olds, sheets....

there's too many to list. i will be watching as many players as i can. there's also numerous playing time battles to keep track of, ie Rockies OF. if seth smith gets his foot in the door, it's time to downgrade gonzo, fowler AND hawpe. if any of those guys get in a 2 week slump, they may be part time players.
This is too bad.

My wife bought me the Prospectus for Christmas this year (along with a couple other baseball books I wanted). I received an E-mail the other day that its finally arrived & is shipping. I should get it any day.

First time I'll be reading this book. Hopefully you're wrong and it'll be enjoyable & informative read.....

Glenn not so sure about that. as soon as you get 'bad' information in your head, you'll remember that on draft day.

in last year's book they had tommy hanson with 129 innings, 4.90 era and a 1.45 whip

projections were **** , which really turned me off to them. their writeups on each player were alright i guess
Thanks Bud, I appreciate the advice.

This is the first year I'm actually trying out these pre-season draft prep books and I'm giving a few of them a read. Therefore, I don't see any one "forecaster" having too great an influence over me. I'm mostly reading them to check out the underlying stats each provide (turns out most look at the same stats but sometimes in a different way or from a different viewpoint) and to see if any of them provide an insight I may not have caught onto myself.

Funny thing is the one I'm enjoying the most thusfar is one you barely hear anything about....

Great chat today Mark....

PS...still an opportunity to switch draft venues out west. See you in a few weeks if you decide to stay.... ;)

From Gordon Gekko II last year in June....

"hanson is a bum.

those numbers predict a horrible future. he's getting by on luck, which still counts. however, luck eventually runs out. jordan zimmerman is a much better pitcher. again, sorry for bursting your bubble. "

Jordan Zimmerman's ADP just went through the roof!
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

edward...gekko had a off year we all know that and he even admitted with the birth of his baby it threw him out of whack. i remember gekko having a radioshow with koq. he was blasting hanson on air so i chimed in and touted hanson. hanson was not getting any love/respect from gekko in just a handful of innings in the majors. hopefully, gekko is a believer now. something about once you own a skill...... :D

with that said, last year was my most successful fantasy baseball season from a prize winnings standpoint.

for this year:

1. we are not having a baby

2. i cut down on my weekly manage teams (from 6 to 3)

for all of you out there, good luck trying to stop me (you're going to need it)
