I think the draft officially starts today at 10am(Eastern?), so he should have 23 hours from now. At starting today, any owner has 24 hours from the previous owner's posted pick if I'm not mistaken.

Outside of a brief conversation with Shawn last night where I advised him of my family's situation and he was able to give me a brief update on the status of the draft, I've really had no opportunity to follow it over the past few days.

I'll look over a couple things now and I promise to announce my pick within the next hour. Sorry again for holding things up.

Don't worry Mark - plenty of time to figure out that perfect pick....plenty of 1980 Mets left on the board!

Glenn,

I had hoped something like this wasn't the reason you missed the boards the last day or so. Sorry for your loss and my symphathies go out to you and your family.

Sorry for your loss Glenn.

I also of course have no issue at all if you need more time to make your pick.

Agreed. I think we should allow whatever time Glenn needs to make his picks.

When I received the 6th pick in the draft, I was concerned. I felt the top 5 players in this draft were in their own tier. Ruth is Ruth, his numbers speak for themselves, and they create an edge in raw numbers over every single offensive player to ever play the game. Hornsby's got the most impressive numbers from any scarce positional player and creates an edge nobody can match from one of those positions. Each of Walsh, Johnson, & Mathewson create edges in so many of the pitching categories that they had to be considered at the top of the draft. Thus these 5 players were easily my top 5 choices in a draft where I had pick number 6. Of course to the credit to those who chose before me, they went 1-5.

I really thought at least one would fall. However, I now find myself in the unenviable position of trying to decide whether to choose a player who will keep me within striking range of those who chose before me or to try to create an edge in an altogether different and previously unconsidered direction. After some thought and consideration here, I've decided that the best course of action is the former. I believe that with the early 1900's considered, the truly ridiculous pitching seasons available from that timeframe can create an edge for some that will have those that don't follow suit chasing those categories for much of the draft.

So my decision came down to 2 pitchers, both Hall of Famers, though with somewhat different resumes. The first is considered one of baseball's all-time greats at any position, the other rarely mentioned in any list of the greatest pitchers let alone players. One has a season many consider one of the greatest pitching seasons of all time, the other has one oddly rarely mentioned. One has many seasons that could be considered an asset for a league such as this and one in particular that stands out, the other has just one, but what a season, especially for one category. Which to choose?

My decision is actually being made as I write this post......and what it will come down to is this. As great a season as the one had, choosing him would leave me with an edge in no categories over those three that chose pitching before me. He would keep me in striking range of all, but in first in none, even after only six players have been chosen in this draft. The other, while leaving me with ground to make up in four of the pitching categories, will give me an edge in one category over all those who chose pitching thus far, a significant edge to work with over all but one of those drafters, and one that will remain over all players in this draft for everyone's first pitcher for that one category. That category....wins. That pitcher.......

Picking upfront is such a massive advantage in this draft that I think future drafts will require 3RR like in Football, if not 3RR & 4RR!!! (I wish I had brought it up for discussion earlier!)
