There's a reason why I suggested 1941 for the starting point, it's the last season that anyone has ever hit .400. I thought about taking Williams 1941 or 1949 but won't have to worry about that now.

With Zola, we had category totals, hitter/pitcher splits, rosters, avg. totals per category......

If you're going to step into Zola's shoes, at least TRY to fill them.

Next pick is one of the better years since roto baseball started. I think Coors Field pre humidor helped him but hey who really cares.

Ellis Burks 1996 OF

silly me thought he had a "decent" chance of Burks making it to me

Dave - Are you working on posting the category stats and team rosters (like Zola did last draft)?

I think this is a necessity in order for owners to know where they stand and to ensure that the right players, years and stats are being used. I think we need transparency much like we had in the last draft. Thanks.

Guys I will be out between 10:00 and about 1:00 today with no access to the boards. If the pick would get to me between those hours, Gekko can reach me on my cell phone and depending who has been picked, I MAY be able to make my pick. Otherwise it will have to wait until I get back.

Fellas, I am sure Dave will be posting all the necessary stats and standings we are all expecting. This information is not of major importance here in Round 2 so let's give him some time to get it all together. Knowing him, we will end up with more numbers than we need/want.

A couple hitters I was considering strongly have been plucked since my last pick. There's a couple others I've considered here as well. However, with the starting pitching pool so much shallower in this draft and a couple other drafters having taken back to back stud pitchers since I've last picked, I have a feeling the super-stud pitching pool will be close to non-existent by the time I pick again. Therefore I've decided to back my McLain pick with another stud starter.

However, instead of fortifying the wins & K's that McLain provided, I'm going to use the flexibility he gave me there to strengthen my ratios. The pitcher I'll grab here has the strongest ratios in the field outside of Pedro and along with Pedro & Clemens probably represented the best pitchers in our game during the the 90's. Of course as a Mets fan, he was a constant nemesis. Here though, I feel he'll be a huge asset.

The year.....1995. The pitcher......

Interesting. The first seven drafters who've had the chance to take a 2nd player have all doubled up on hitters or pitchers. Noone's yet gone for a balanced lineup with their first two picks. Curious to see who'll be the first to break the string.

A couple other interesting trends.

Of the first 6 pitchers taken, 3 were from the infamous pitching season of 1968 and 6 of the first 8 were from the 8 year period between 1965 to 1972.

All of the first 5 hitters taken were from the steroids & Coors era between 1996 and 2001 as well as 10 of the first 11.

So though the ridiculous pitching seasons of pre-1920 and the crazy hitting seasons of the 20's & 30's (especially 1930) are no longer in the player pool, it appears the drafters have found new favored eras for their pitchers and hitters.

[/QUOTE]Honestly John....terrible. Only 4 Mets, Pedro, Piazza, Doc, and Koufax (spring training coach) after 22 picks???

I'm embarrassed for this league.

Maybe what I need to do is provide a little motivation to choose the worthy players from America's Team.

Through John P. in Round 2...

Teams without a pitcher will show a 9.00 era and 2.00 whip to move them to the bottom.

You know, New York Met fans used to call the Mets, the Metropolitans.

Now, METrosexuals.

Times change

Team change

And thankfully, shorts change.

Just for laughs, if failed, here is something I heard a few years ago.....

A body was found in the Hudson. After being fished out, police noticed that it was a 30 year old man wearing a Mets shirt, lipstick, rouge, a ladies skirt, and dangled ear rings.

They mocked the corpse and made several jokes about his appearance.

Until they noticed he was wearing a wedding ring.

Knowing he probably had a family who loved him, they decided to make him look more presentable for the public.

So they took off his Mets shirt.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
