Willie Mays did many things. He led the league in home runs four times. Stole more bases than any player in the league four times. Even led in batting average one year.
He had over 1,900 rbi and over 100 rbi in 10 seasons.
But you know what?
He never led the league in rbi.
There's a trivia question in there somewhere.
Rogers Hornsby led the National League in hitting six straight years, never hitting below .370.
In three of those years, he hit over .400
But you know what?
He did something that has only been done by him. He hit .400 while hitting over 40 homers.
Nolan Ryan has thrown seven no-hitters.
But you know what?
The catcher that has caught the most no-hitters never caught for Ryan.
Jason Varitek has caught four no-hitters.
Nomo, Lowe, Buchholz, and Lester.
The Cincinnati Reds have not been in the World Series since 1990.
But you know what?
The Reds have the longest current winning streak of World Series games.
They've won nine in a row.
Yankee fans can always say 'Scoreboard' when it comes to arguments with Red Sox fans.
But you know what?
The Yankees have been swept in the World Series. The Red Sox have never been swept.
Speaking of the Red Sox. They seem to fill Fenway Park for every game in recent memory.
But you know what?
After trading all their good players away for a Broadway song, they set a record of a different kind in 1922.
They set an all time attendance low for the ball park when 68 people pushed their way through the turnstiles.
Have you heard of Larry Littleton or Mike Potter?
Neither have I.
But you know what?
Littleton and Potter hold the record for least hits in the most at bats for a non-pitcher.
Both went 0-23
Bonus stat:
Bob Buhl went 0-70 as a pitcher in 1962.
On May 24, 2007, John Smoltz won his 200th game to go along with an already achieved 150 saves.
He became the first player to notch both statistics.
But you know what?
On that day, he beat former teammate, Tommy Glavine.
A 1952 Mickey Mantle baseball card is considered THE card for some folks.
But you know what?
A Stan Musial card from that same year would be more valuable.
Musial did not sign with Topps till, I believe, 1959.
In 1918, Babe Ruth hit a ball over the fence to win the game for the Red Sox.
But you know what?
It was ruled a triple since there was a man on base.
Scoring rules at the time, limited the offensive team to just one run victories in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Several Players have hit three or four homers in a game
But you know what?
Only 12 players have hit a homer to each field in that game.
In Hornsby's magical year of 1922, he had 250 hits
But you know what?
He played in every game (154) and only failed to get a hit in 19 games.
It would take Adam Dunn three weeks to accomplish that.
In 1938, Bob feller had 240 strike outs.
But you know what?
He had 208 walks too.
What a pleasant experience hitting against Rapid Robert!
Of the top ten hitters last year in baseball, no hitter had more triples (16) than Jose Reyes.
But you know what?
Of those top 10 hitters, Reyes had less doubles (31) and homers (7) too.
He had over 1,900 rbi and over 100 rbi in 10 seasons.
