SLOW DRAFT PROTOCOL

This topic needs to be discussed b/c when a draft begins at 5 pm EST and the 1st 3 pks are made in short order and then stops for 8 hours at # 4
C'mon man! I know everyone has lives outside of this, but if it's too much to ask to at least check in every couple hrs maybe this ain't for you.
Now we are 4 hrs deep waiting on pk # 9
THIS IS RIDICULOUS (there is no freakin gremlin that shows my disgust rt now...and I know many of my league mates in SD #5 feel the same way)
I think Slow drafts should be 4 hr time limit during day & 8 overnight, or something, hell I don't know, but this sucks!

Some guys might not have access capability at work. That would prove difficult in knowing how fast other picks have been made. In this case, having eight hours would be more convenient for those owners. You could utilize a queue, but I think most owners would prefer to see how the previous picks shake out before selecting.

rockit - they are called S-L-O-W drafts for a reason

Yes, this is certainly a negative of slow drafts. That's why the "auto one round only" functionality was so vital to this slow draft season. Hopefully by the time I'm ready, the "auto one round" functionality will be there. Unless you are sleeping or involved in an emergency, there is no reason to hold people hostage.

I don't care if people take the 8 hours or whatever, I just get annoyed if its for the whole draft. I know everyone is anxious to pick, but there's going to be times where everyone is away from their computers (or at least I hope so). Just as long as people are active in some capacity.
But if you know that 85% of your picks are going to time out, then either don't sign up or use the auto function

Exactly Gekko. Is there any update from IT on this feature Greg?

give me a break Perry, at the rate this draft is going we might finish by Easter.
2 guys, TWO are going to time out in the 1st rd, call me impatient all u want, i'm calling BS
this is so the opposite of the mlbc draft & the all time draft - both were slow drafts, but we all cared enough about one another to you know, COMMUNICATE
Last, I realize people are gonna have times when they're unreachable, but rarely is it the case that you can't give your fellow drafters a heads up.

rockit - do what i did in the alltime draft. ask people for their cell phone #'s and keep the draft moving that way. your PAIN level might go down! just a thought.

Communication is definitely key.
Everyone has email addresses though, so you can always shoot a note as well

This is why I no longer do slow drafts - guys who time out or take forever to pick. I'm too impatient. I've learned my lesson. If slow picking is going to bother you, you shouldn't sign up.
I've heard the same statements/arguments for what, five years now? One guy complains about how long it takes, and someone else says "It is a SLOW draft". It is the same thing over and over. No one ever wins the argument, and no one is right. Just live with it.

yeah, u did a great job w/ that Mark...i am not a leader like u

some folks might be leery about giving out their phone #'s i don't know.
i'm only exagerrating a little...the 4th pk did indeed time out. we waited 8 hrs for the computer to give him Ellsbury, sorry that's just inexcusable. we are currently 3 hrs & 10 min's from team 10 timing out and being given Granderson.

Great points Jack. In my defense, other than the aforementioned MLBC & All Time drafts, this is my 1st Slow Draft. Not to get all Walla Walla, but it looks like it will be my last. I am far too impatient for this

I'm not in this draft, but if it's who I think it is........... he is not going to be happy. I talked to that owner ( I don't want to post a name if it's not who I think) a couple days ago. He told me he had the fourth pick and we were tossing names around......... but the real point of this post is that I'm almost positive he told me he thought the draft started today (Thurs). I haven't talked to him since and I don't know if he has showed up in the draft room yet; but I can tell you that if it's who I think it is, he is a fast drafter that is online most of the time and very rarely holds up a slow draft for more than an hour at the most.
So as I say, he is not gonna be happy knowing that his pick was made for him by the computer timing out...................

Russel, I think there's some confusion b/c of a thread titled "Slow Drafts Starting Thursday at Noon", some guys may've saw this and assumed it was the start. If you looked under the SD # 5 draft order thread (and wouldn't ya look there if u were in the draft, to see what pk ya got) Greg states that THIS slow draft would begin at 5 EST on WEDNESDAY the 28th.
If u look under that thread u can see if u were rt (about who team 4 is).

Other than MLBC, I'm resisting the urge (with great difficulty) to do any Slow Drafts this year. Mainly because I hate them. For this exact reason. And the fact that I suck at them because I'm not ready to draft. But mostly because of this.

OK.
It's not my friend, he is pick #4 in another league. I don't know the guy in your draft. Sorry.

You are alerted via email, and if you know you are in the middle of a draft, at the very least you can check your email

Let me be the first to say HORSEBLEEP to that Mark. Greg shouldn't be allowing allowing people to draft as anonymous.....and what happens when the second person in the draft wants to draft that way too?

I’d be fine if every team was simply assigned a number.
Let's do an entire draft filled with Anonymous teams. Fine by me. Sign me up.

Hmmm.......I thought the agreed upon rule regarding "Anonymous" is that the anonymous drafter's identity would be revealed to all others in the draft with him. That the whole purpose of allowing anonymous signups would be for those who didn't want their names on the message boards lists so that others wouldn't follow them into drafts to find out their sleepers or for other reasons like job searches, etc. That the true identity would be revealed to those drafting in the same league so that an even playing field could be established so that the anonymous drafter wouldn't know the sleepers of other drafters without having to reveal his own? Hmmmmm.
Is this not the case?

Yes I agree if every team is given a number or letter......let me know when you get it set up
just not when one is accorded special treatment.
