Incorrect Picks In Slow Drafts

Hey folks, we're receiving a number of incorrect picks in the Slow Drafts so far. I wanted to see if there's a way to isolate any problems and see what may be going on here. If anyone has run into problems can you tell me with as much detail and information as possible what happened? Telling me "the queue didn't work" or "the system picked the wrong player" isn't helpful because that doesn't help us address specifically what may be happening.

So please provide as much detail and information as possible, including whether you're using the HTML or Flash versions and whether you had your auto-pick box checked or not as well as the browser you're using. I'll direct our IT folks to this thread. Thanks.

Tom, I can tell you the root of the problem and I mentioned it in another thread. You had asked me to take a screenshot of the issue, but couldnt do it. I will try the next time I see it.

The main issue I have seen is in the que. When you set your players in que in order of preference, then leave the room and come back in later, all of the players in the que, that I set in order, are jumbled, players all over the place. So, if you try to auto draft, you are going to have an issue. It is a que problem. As far as I can see.

My personal experience so far is when I stay in the live draft room and my computer goes into "sleep mode", the que gets jumbled and it may not take the correct player if on auto. When I set my que, go on auto, and then exit the room, it has worked just fine. Maybe just a coincidence, but doesn't seem to be.

I took a look at something a few minutes ago and it appears that if you click on a player in your queue, then click on someone in the main draft pool area and then try to click on a player in your queue again the queued player isn't being highlighted. Not sure if that makes sense. Hopefully it does because that's what I told our tech guys. I've asked them to take a look at that but in the meantime be sure the player's name listed in bold black letters at the top of the main draft pool is the player you want to draft before you click the Draft button. Be sure that the player listed there is the one you want to draft.

I took a look at something a few minutes ago and it appears that if you click on a player in your queue, then click on someone in the main draft pool area and then try to click on a player in your queue again the queued player isn't being highlighted. Not sure if that makes sense. Hopefully it does because that's what I told our tech guys. I've asked them to take a look at that but in the meantime be sure the player's name listed in bold black letters at the top of the main draft pool is the player you want to draft before you click the Draft button. Be sure that the player listed there is the one you want to draft.

Our tech guys are looking into this more but they have some steps outlined that should enable everyone to avoid this issue cropping up again:

If you search for a player from the search box, just click “clear” to then select a player from the queue. If you search by position, select “all” and the queue is active again.

I find it frightening clicking "Draft Player" and then it's done. Well, whats the problem you say? I would just feel way more comfortable with a "confirmation" box...Clicking "Draft Player" then having a pop up of some sort, confirming your action, would be fantastic. Anyone agree?

I also had the same problem today. It did not cause me a missed pick as I signed on just before it was my turn. I was able to turn auto-pick off just before it was my pick, however it would have picked guys in a different order than I set it if I hadn't turned it off.

Agreed. I'm in slow draft 12. About 4 1/2 hours ago I attempted to pick one particular player. he was highlighted and at the top of the que. Somehow it chose a different player for me. I've been pressing the help button ever since but have not heard from anyone. A confirmation box would have prevented this.

I just corrected Slow Draft #12. You guys are back on schedule. Thanks to all for being so understanding, but Tom and I do need our beauty sleep!! Can't be there at 1:30 am all the time.

When you highlight a player, the player you're going to draft appears in the Player Info box. His stats come up right there so that you have more information on the player you're drafting. Realize that the player in that info box is the player you're going to draft before you hit the Draft button. It's right there, just like a confirmation button.

Thanks, I see what you are saying. I still believe it would be beneficial to those who "accidentally" hit the "Draft Player" button, maybe it's just me. Not a huge deal, just a suggestion. Those confirmation pop-ups were invented to avoid big mistakes, accidentally drafting RA Dickey in 2nd round would be a BIG mistake

This exact thing has happened twice to me in two different slow drafts and it happened last night to another player in the draft I'm in right now (#10). You highlight a player, he appears in the top box, you click draft player and bam, a totally different player is selected. When this happened to me on both occasions, the software picked a player I never had highlighted or put in my queue. No idea what causes this glitch but it's there and it happens with some frequency.
It's one of those things that people don't believe it really happens until it happens to them.

Someone smarter than me said you can avoid problems by doing the following:

Before they highlight the Player in their queue, they MUST hit ALL in the Players's Box.

Then when they highlight the Player in their queue, the Player will also appear highlighted in the Player's Box - and all will be cool.

If the Player's Box is showing only SS, and the Owner wants to draft a Pitcher from his queue, it will highlight the Pitcher in the queue, but draft some SS that was touched on previously.

Tell everyone to hit ALL in the Player's Box, then highlight in the queue, all will be fine.

Have seen several instances of unwanted players drafted in all of my slow drafts.

All the owners to whom this happened (including myself) had their player highlited and when they pressed "draft player" a different player was chosen.

One other problem has surfaced.

In one draft, an owner claimed the wrong player was selected. Other owners asked him who he had wanted instead. He claimed he wanted Player A but the system had randomly drafted Player B instead. We called in the Greg and Tom Rescue Squad.

Exceptionally, it took Tom and Greg more time than usual to show up.

In the meantime, the drafter who wanted Player A, began doing some research and found out that an MLB player had been traded. He comes back to the draft room and announces. "You know what guys, I've done some research during the break and now, I'd prefer to draft Player C". Turns out that the next drafting owner had Player C targeted next but because of the first owner's change, the latter ended up landing Player C.

Does the owner who is assigned a wrongful selection, have the right to select any player he wants from the player pool, once the draft is re-set OR is he bound by the selection he intended to make?

Please advise for future eventualities of this nature.

p.s. the guy who changed his selection claimed that no one objected to it on the message board. We all know that a lot of owners don't even read the message board, so silence does not mean consent.

I did not see this happen. This must have happened over the weekend. Usually Tom or I jump into a draft room as quickly as we can and roll back the pick. We don't always stick around for the pick as we have several leagues going on at once and honestly we're just keeping our computers open to await the Help button if it happens.

There isn't anything in our rules that state someone has to announce his pick to the group or that he has to tell everyone who he is picking. But it doesn't seem right that someone would ask for Help saying there was a problem when he wanted someone else and now has had time to change his mind. Again, in these Slow Drafts the rules don't really address this issue, but it's surprising that someone would do this. If you're announcing who you are picking and we roll it back then pick that player. I guess once again we need to watch every pick after we roll them back and hold everyone to their word.

Thanks for pointing this out. Again, NO we don't require people to announce the player they want and we don't make the picks for them. We just roll back the pick to them and if needed we do pick for anyone who was affected and may not realize we rolled back. We try to keep these drafts rolling. But have some common courtesy and pick the player you wanted when you hit SUBMIT and don't use that extra time for scouting. You already had 8 hours to decide on a player.

I can't use the Flash side, as I'm traveling, and the only device I have with me is an IPad. The biggest problem with HTML there is not with the que, but the fact that I can auto-pick in only one draft at a time. I like to auto pick, but invariably I seem to guess wrong on which league is going to move faster. In the unluckier of the two leagues they are none too happy about about my guesswork....

You wouldn't happen to have a quick solution or fix for this would you? Either my end or yours. I have a heavy foreign travel schedule the weekend after next, it would be nice to have something figured out by then, even if it was only temporary. Otherwise I will be holding up one league or the other for eight hours....on a weekend to boot.

For future reference, the HTML side is really rough and it needs to be polished. The messaging is attrocious, there is not one-auto-pick, we can't see who is in the draft room, etc. It seems to me that Flash will be going the way of Kodak at some point in the next few years, as Adobe has quit supporting it. I hope your tech support group is addressing this moving forward and can get us a good platform we can trust, appreciate and build upon.

I do love the draft board, though...don't change a thing there!
