Draft Order For $1,000 NFBC Slow Draft League

There are 15 crazy, die-hard NFBC owners who signed up for a $1,000 Slow Draft League that will start on the Monday that pitchers and catchers report for spring training. I think that is Feb. 20th. This league has a higher entry fee and higher league prizes, but it's also part of the Slow Draft Championship. I just have a feeling it will go much faster than most slow leagues. ;)

Anyway, this league deserves a little special attention, so I'm going to announce the draft spots in a fun way today. I will do them one by one every 5 minutes and give folks a little info on each owner. Should be fun.

Who got No. 1? We'll find out at 4 p.m. EST!!! Are you ready?

CONGRATS to Glenn Lowy for getting the first pick in the $1,000 Slow Draft League. He was randomly picked first and got his first choice, obviously. His KDS started out 1,3,2,4,5, so he obviously likes the top of the draft. That's where he starts out here. CONGRATS.

Who gets the second pick?

The second person randomly picked in this league was the founder of this $1,000 league, Max Ogden. Trust me, no favors were given to this fellow Cheesehead, he just won the luck of the draw. He chose No. 5 as his first KDS choice and is the second owner to get his first preference. Max had his preferences listed as: 5,4,1,2,3,6, so like Glenn, he wanted the top half of the draft. He got it. Enjoy Max and best of luck.

Now, who was picked third out of the hat?

Jim Ferrari got his second choice as he was picked third randomly and had 1-15 as his KDS. Jim is teaming up with Shawn Childs this year, so best of luck with to that tag team.

Now, who gets the next pick and will it be one they like? I would think so, right? ;)

Stephen Jupinka is up next and gets his first KDS preference, the 13th spot. Our former NFBC $100,000 champ likes the bottom portion of the first round and actually had his KDS as 13 to 8. He gets lucky #13. Nice job CHAMP!!

Okay, four random selections and three guys got their No. 1 preference. See how this works so nicely? I like it.

Rick Thomas was pulled next, and although he got only his third preference, I think he will like it. He went 1,2,3,9 and got No. 3. He was moving down the lower half of the draft if not for this get. Good luck RT and enjoy the 3 hole.

Jody Early was a late substitute for this league, but that didn't stop him from getting his first KDS preference: No. 12. Jody liked 12,13,14,11 and he got lucky No. 12. Nice job Jody and best of luck against this gang. I see Mikey already welcomed you by asking about your genitals, so you know what you're in for here. I'm sure you can more than hold your own. Good luck.

Now, 4 out of the first 6 owners got their No. 1 preference. Can we make it 5 for 7? YES WE CAN!!

What's in a name?

In the same league, a gentleman by the name of "Lowy" is picking highly.

Just sayin'. 8-)

Jeff Dobies becomes our latest owner to get his 1st KDS preference. He was picked 7th randomly, but slips into the No. 4 spot, which is his first preference. I love how that works sometimes. JD is an NFBC veteran who can handle the smack talk in this league. Best of luck Jeff and don't let Mikey the Mouth get to you. ;)

Okay, there's still one more person who gets their No. 1 preference, but it's not going to happen right away. Stay tuned. Others before him get to make their selections. More to come soon.

Ralph Ehrman went 1-15 with his KDS and got the 6th pick. Nothing real exciting there, but it could have been worse Ralph. Enjoy the middle of the draft and best of luck.

Next one will be a little more exciting....

The defending league champion, Mike Massotto, got his second preference and will draft down at the turn, getting lucky No. 15. Mike went 1,15,2,14,3 and got his second preference. Let's see if he likes that 15th and 16th picks and what he can do at each turn. Should be fun to watch the master at work!!!

Next one up gets his first preference, giving us SIX owners with their first preference. Pretty cool.

See how beautiful this KDS works? Dave Potts was picked 10th randomly and got his first KDS preference. He slides into the No. 11 spot, his first choice. Dave went 11,10,2,3, and could have even had 10 if picked later. Dave is a veteran of these Slow Drafts and should have no trouble doing this one and about 6 more at the same time!! Great job Dave and best of luck against this crazy crew.

Okay, nobody else got their top choice after this. But we do have five more spots to fill. Next up....

I'll finish this up now so that you can folks can start planning for your draft. Next up is Greg Doyle, who got the 7th pick, his 3rd preference. He had 6,5,7,8,4,9 listed and got his third choice. Not bad. Best of luck from that spot Greg and I know that you spent a lot of time on your KDS. See, it paid off.

Matt Anderson went straight 1-15 and landed in the 8th spot. Halfway is about right, wouldn't you say Matt? ;) Good luck from the middle of the draft.

Gaetan Lavoie was picked 13th randomly, but still got his 4th preference. He listed 13,12,11,10,14,15 as his top preferences and got No. 10. He obviously likes the back portion of the draft and will be comfortable in this spot. Best of luck Gaetan against this motley crew.

Bruce Bevacqua was randomly picked 14th, but again he did okay by getting his 5th preference. Bruce liked 4,5,6,13,14,15 and landed at No. 14.

Unfortunately, someone has to be picked last randomly and this time it was Marc Perlmutter. He got the 9th pick, which was his 13th choice. He didn't like the middle of the draft and had 9,8,7 last on his list. Sorry Marc, but it happens sometimes. Blame www.random.org/lists!! Only two people got a KDS out of their Top 7 and you were one of them. Sorry.

Here's the draft order. Good luck all and I hope you enjoyed the KDS lesson:

Nice, Greg. I'm the returning league champ and how do I get rewarded? By getting shafted out of vowels in my name!!!
:o

This one is going to be some serious fun and great competition. Whoever wins this league title will own some major bragging rights. Repeating as champ will be a monumental accomplishment, but ending up in the 15 hole where I drafted from last year is perhaps a good omen...at least that's how I'm spinnin' it.

This was a great job Greg and a lot of fun to watch play out. Thank you for pulling my name out of the hat first, that was a very cool moment (that I'd really appreciate being repeated as often as possible ;) ). Thank you even more for placing me on one end of the draft and whoever that Masstto guy is  on the far end. Now there's a chance I can avoid him in the draft room. :P

All joking aside, I'm really looking forward to this draft. Well done putting this group together Max. Tough roster of drafters and what should be a great and challenging league.

Thanks again to Greg for doing our KDS Announcement like this, it was a lot of fun. This league is full of NFBC All-Stars, a few regulars like myself and 2 of the 3 NFBC Hall of Famer's!
Plus we have our Defending Champ MtM! Mikey, if you repeat as champ in this league, you will have earned yourself my vote for the NFBC HALL OF FAME... Mascot Wing Of Course! ;)
Get Studying Boys, we go to school in 19 Days!

Not thrilled with the #9 slot. Then again, I figure to be better off after 3 rounds than I was last year when I passed on King Felix at the end of the 2nd round and instead picked Wainwright with the 2nd pick of the 3rd round, just a day or two before his arm trouble surfaced. That was not a happy day...

No fun on the Wainwright pick Marc... but that happens. Lots you can do with that #9 pick!
These next 19 days will go fast and I for one am totally excited to know where we are all drafting from!
