Same here. That rendition of the National Anthem was the best of all time! She was way better in my eyes than what became of her life. Hopefully she is in a better place now. RIP Whitney....BK METS wrote:Best rendition of the Star Spangled Banner ever at the Superbowl Giants-Bills. I remember it was during war time in Iraq and everyone in the stands had American flags. Very sad what happened to her life...
Great analogy Doughy. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent.DOUGHBOYS wrote:Her life makes me think of Dwight Gooden. (This what my wife means by turning everything to baseball)
Both could have been better for so much longer. The wrong choices robbed us of seeing their talents over a normal period of time. For both, it was beautiful while it lasted.
It brought Strawberry down too.... Imagine the numbers he woud have put up had he stayed clean and lived life, like, say a Derek Jeter....Glenneration X wrote:Great analogy Doughy. Elvis, Marilyn, the Mick, the Kennedy's, the list goes on and on and the tragic stories are endless. The inability to control one's demons has taken down some of the greatest figures in every part of American culture and in many cases shortened their lives. Fame can be both a blessing and a curse.Outlaw wrote:It brought Strawberry down too.... Another was Ken Caminitti... I wonder what it is, that makes so many athletes and cultural icons stumble into the the darkness of abuse...
Extremely Well Said.Outlaw wrote:She has the greatest voice my ears have ever heard....She will be missed... No matter how she passed, her last 20 years shoud've have been so much more, but once again Drugs and Alcohol wreaked so much pain for her and those around her. I hope all the young children and anyone take pause and learn from such a tragic early loss of life because of Substance abuse.
She will live on in the lives of many through her music and that voice and may her passing not be in vain...
Her Rendtion of the National Anthem will be played in many stadiums for centurys to come...
