Mike Stanton Is Now Giancarlo Stanton

Post by Tom Kessenich » Wed Feb 29, 2012 3:13 pm

FYI - Mike Stanton has changed his name to Giancarlo Stanton. He's now listed that way in our draft room.

Giancarlo is no name for a power slugger.
Who is this, robed in splendor, striding forward in the greatness of his strength? “It is I, proclaiming victory, mighty to save.” Isaiah 63:1

I read this report on Stanton last night on Ray Flowers' blog. This is as good a place to post it as any. Interesting thoughts Ray:

I really hate it when guys pull this crap. It makes me wonder about the thought processes at work here when he has been the baseball player formerly known as Mike Stanton for how many years now? Why stop there? Why not just change your name to a symbol like Prince did in a vain attempt to bolster his career? And how did that work out for him and his record sales? And how 'bout the ballplayer formerly known as Kendry who insisted he become Kendrys? How did that do for his karma? Point being, the more interesting these guys try to be by drawing attention to themselves, the less interested we become as fans of them, and more often than not the Universe comes back to bite them in the ass for it. Makes me wonder why the hell it took so long for him to wake up one day to realize that he's being called by either an incorrect name or one that he didn't like anymore or whatever. Next thing you know we'll find out his name is really Fausto Carmona or Leo Nunez  Gimme an f-ing break! :? I have it on good authority that Doughboy has requested that he be addressed going forward as "Antonio de Padua María Severino López de Santa Anna y Pérez de Lebrón" and has admitted to Greg that he is actually three years older than what was originally believed.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
