New Prize Structure For NFBC Slow Draft Championship

Thanks to a record year for the NFBC Slow Draft Championship, we have more prize money to give to our paying customers. We finished with 70 leagues and 1,050 teams and can now boost our overall prize pool. The league prizes remain the same:
NFBC $150 Slow Draft Championship
League Prizes
1st - $1,000
2nd - $375
3rd - $125
NFBC $375 Slow Draft Championship
League Prizes
1st - $1,400
2nd - $1,400
3rd - $1,400
Now here is the proposed revised overall prize pool:
NFBC Slow Draft Championship
Overall Prizes
1st - $12,000
2nd - $3,000
3rd - $2,000
4th - $1,000
5th - $500
6th - $250
7th - $250
8th - $250
9th - $250
10th - $250
11th - $250
12th - $250
13th - $250
14th - $250
15th - $250
Proportionately, I kept it very similar to our regular plan for the top 3 spots and I felt the additional jump for 1st place was justified with 1,050 teams competing. We were able to pay something to 15 teams compared to our original plan of only 5 teams. We're paying off more to the top teams and we're paying off more teams. I think everyone wins here.
Great job everyone and let me know what you think. It's not going to be easy to win this national championship, but someone has to do it. May the best team win.
$12,000 on a potential $150 entry. GOTTA LIKE IT!!!

Greg,
It's not a huge difference, but my thinking is that 6th to 10th is worth more than 11th to 15th.
Any thoughts on $350 to 6th to 10th and $150 to 11th to 15th - not a big deal either way but a top 10 finish with all these teams is quite an accomplishment.
Again, just a thought and great job growing this format to a $12K prize.

Good points and well worth considering. Mine isn't finalized yet. Thanks.

I agree there should be some diffrence between 6-10 and 11-15.

knock out 11-15 and add it to 2nd place...it would be a bummer to lose out on 9k on the last day

...reward # 2 a bit better..top 10 money is plenty..all in my humble opinion

I plan on taking first, not too concerned about the other finishes!

Actually, I'll just be happy to win my league.
You probably won't make everyone happy with the payout structure...for example, 6-8 should make more than 9-10!
The $375 payout structure does look rather odd, and since I didn't plan on doing that $ league, I never looked at the payouts. 3rd place gets the same payout as 1st place? I'm sure it's been discussed and there is a reason, just seems strange, you'd think 1st get a bump in pay.
Also, I wonder if a team that drafted Braun "before" he was re-instated will win take 1st place. I haven't drafted him yet and don't plan on it, so I'm hoping for mid-round production, maybe .280/20HR's/20SB's max!

If he comes close to anything he did last year, a Braun team could be in the running for the $12 grand.
Great job Greg and Tom, should be fun a fun year.

Nice payout for a $150 investment.

I know the incentive for the NFBC is to create large headline overall prizes, but giving the champ over 50% of the prize money in the pot is exceptionally top heavy and out of line with other large field events in non-baseball endeavors. A more similar payout structure would put about 5k towards the winner and pay out to 80-100 places. Just my 2c.

Pay the top 10 max, forget the micro payments beyond that. Your accounting dept will be happier with that structure too.

I agree with KJ. The overall is gravy. I don't believe most of the folks playing the slow drafts were playing them for the overall title that was at stake anyway.

Agreed with both. 11-15 goes to second place and somehow, try to get 2nd place up to $5,000.

This is the one that makes the most sense to me. Pays the Top 10 only, $10,000 is a great prize for the Overall winner, with nice payments also going to 2 - 4th as well.
Besides, only I would brag about a Top 15 Overall finish in the NFBC Slow Draft Championship anyways!

Agree with this one....paying those micro payments down any farther than 10th place is useless.

if we assume that the winner of any of these prizes, 15th through 1st, has already pocketed 1k, then getting an extra $250 isn't that big a deal. nice, but i prefer the plan that pushes most of the prize $ up closer towards the top end.

Okay, I apologize for not finalizing the overall prize structure for the NFBC Slow Draft DC Championship, but those damn live events got in the way of things during March!!

I looked over the suggestions within this thread and took those ideas to narrow this expanded prize pool. We originally paid off the Top 5 overall, but thanks to the increased participation we can now pay Top 10 overall and pay those Top 10 finishers a whole lot more.
As you know, we finished with 70 leagues and 1,050 teams. The league prizes remain the same:
NFBC $150 Slow Draft Championship
League Prizes
1st - $1,000
2nd - $375
3rd - $125
NFBC $375 Slow Draft Championship
League Prizes
1st - $1,400
2nd - $1,400
3rd - $1,400
Now here is the proposed revised overall prize pool:
NFBC Slow Draft Championship
Overall Prizes
1st - $10,000
2nd - $4,000
3rd - $3,000
4th - $1,250
5th - $750
6th - $500
7th - $500
8th - $500
9th - $250
10th - $250
Thoughts?

Greg,
Just my two cents, but I think first should be higher (I know you originally had 12K). Beating out over 1000 teams is pretty impressive.

There are opinions on every side here Jeff. Yes, this is the highest percentage-wise for prizes that we'd be giving for 2nd, 3rd and 4th place that we have among all our contests, but this is also the most teams that we have in any contest. So I see the desire to reward those teams as well. If you give $2,000 more to one team, then it has to come from the other 9 places. I'm open for discussion before closing off this prize pool, but we did start with $3,500 as a grand prize, tripled our number of entries and still have a very nice reward of $10,000.
Thoughts?

I wonder how anyone's losing to me.

Still it's nice to be on top of so many great fantasy players, even if it'll never last.
Thanks for the kudos Greg, it's appreciated.
