The elbow injury to Reds closer Ryan Madson will require Tommy John surgery, ending the right-hander's season, according to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer (via Twitter). The Reds do not have insurance on Madson's one-year, $8.5MM contract, Fay tweets.

I just read this too. I only have him in one of my 5 leagues that have already drafted and that was because he was a keeper in that league. I drafted Sean Marshal JUST IN CASE something was wrong with Madson and hope Marshal gets the ball in the 9th!
I kinda wondered if something was wrong with him when he didn't get a multi year deal and now wonder what teams knew!
Bad news for Owners who drafted him so early and counted on him for a big year!

Ouch! I wonder if anyone made him their first closer pick today in the Main before hearing the news............

Marshall was an end game flyer pick of mine in the Erickson 15-team Satellite League last Monday... 28.14 (419th overall)...I'm lovin' it !! It is a bummer for owners who had invested in Madson, though...

Just happened to peek at Rotoworld during the 14th round of today's ME. I'd already drafted 2 closers (Bell-Hanrahan), but it was too hard to pass on that skill set. Somehow I'll make it work............................. 8-)

I took Madson at #142 in one of the slow drafts as my second closer. At the time I thought I was getting very good value for that slot.

Luckily I have a couple of other closers that should be able to pick up the slack. Still, tough to swallow using a 10th rd pick on a closer that is out for the season.....before the season even starts!
