Not the 100k team but take a look for yourself.

Post by mlbbug » Mon Mar 26, 2012 10:34 pm

Main Event Weekend 1 in Mahwah,NJ League 1
Drafting from the # 8 slot

1.8 Braun- surprised to see him on board here...passed on Votto for him

2.23 McCutchen- two 5 category OF a good start

3.38 Lawrie- had to grab him here or not at all...and I wanted him

4.53 Price- wanted at least one elite SP and he was best available

5.68 Victorino- have now rostered 3 OF that contribute across the board stats

6.83 Cuddyer- move to COL should pad stats...sneaky speed could net 10 SB's and 1B/OF eligible too

7.98 Mo Rivera- gotta have a premium closer to compete in NFBC and he's solid as a rock

8.113 Jeter- concession to my co-mgr. who pleaded the case to take him

9.128 Y.Molina- if he continues last year's power surge he could go 15+/70+/.290+

10.143 N.Walker- 2B started to get thin here...mid-teens HR's/70+ RBI/.270+ BA is solid at 2B

11.158 Storen- closers started to disappear...recent MRI came back clean...keeping my fingers crossed

12.173 Cueto- plays in hitter's park but GB%(54%) and tiny hr/9(0.5) means he can keep ball in the park

13.188 C.Lee- can't run anymore but can still put up 20/80/.275 line...1B/OF eligible a plus

14.203 C.Lewis- FB pitcher in TEX a risk but he dominates RHB(.204 BA) and has a 3:1 K/BB rate

15.218 Floyd- his rising K/BB rate surged to elite status 2H '11(4.5:1) and also dominates RHB(.211 BA)

16.233 Lilly- last 5 yrs he's averaged 195 IP;167 K's and 13+ W's...LA park keeps his gopheritis in check

17.248 Mayberry- path to 500+ AB's seems to be there for him and could net 25/75/.260+

18.263 Raburn- filling MI slot with mid-teens HR/60+ RBi ain't bad...2B/OF eligible a plus too

19.278 Nicasio- hoping he bounces back from neck injury last yr...Hi GB%(50);good K/BB rate(3.5:1)

20.293 Romo- his 11.0 k/9 rate and sub-1.00 WHIP help the ratios and he may vulture a few svs too

21.308 Loney- filling CI with 500 AB's of solid BA plus a dozen HR/70 RBI

22.323 C.Davis- hard to believe he's only 26...hoping his huge power potential arrives this yr

23.338 Niemann- last SP pick for starting staff...rising K/BB and GB% show hint of upside

24.353 Barajas- ugh! the dreaded #2 CA...15+ HR/60+ RBi but...BA a drag but about 375 AB's limit damage

25.368 Dave Murphy- never a starter but gets 400+AB's ea. yr....he's averaged 13 HR/56 RBI/11 SB/.278 last 3 yrs.

26.383 Bartlett- the SS not the pear..lol...'09 power was outlier but still has the wheels for 20+ SB's

27.398 Liam Hendriks- got rocked in brief 23 IP MLB stint but had better than 5:1 K/BB rate in minors...a spec play

28.413 A.J. Burnett- progressing quicker than expected from eye injury...with his 8.1 k/9 rate will help with K's

29.428 Addison Reed- Thronton lost closer job early last yr and he could be next in line for svs.

30.443 Abreu- throwing a dart for the last pick of the day...if he doesn't play he's an easy cut

Well that's all she wrote for that draft. FWIW...Rotolab puts this team at or near the top of most offensive categories netting 68 out of 75 points on offense....only middle of the pack in W's and K's but top 3 in svs/ERA and top of the heap in WHIP....hope to be able to wind up with a money finish! Let me know what you guys think.

I like the team though I would have held off on Storen for a lesser closer. In retrospect you got Romo and Reed at the end of the draft, maybe switching out Storen and Lewis (I am not a fan) getting maybe a lesser closer and improving on your SP in the 11 spot. I think you might struggle a bit with SP unless you end up getting something out of Nicasio. I understand he had potential but i think he goes way too high coming off a severe injury. Your hitting is solid and you have covered yourself with backup reserves and a lot of versatile multi position players, giving you a strong CI and outfield. Maybe just slightly short on steals but nothing you cannot pick up in FAAB. I think the team is strong, but I am worried a little on the starting pitching. Hopefully you can get some help in FAAB... Good luck!!

How on earth did u get Addison in rd 29 :o does Gekko know about this

I love Storen in the 11th ! what, he's gon be # 3 (Soria, Madson... ) doubt it. His MRI came back clean I'm bitin' on an elite young closer there FOR SURE. Now Walker the rd before (esp considering u got Raburn in 18th) seems like a wasted pk.

8.113 Jeter- concession to my co-mgr. who pleaded the case to take him - this is ex. A of why I want no part of a partnership ;) I'm w/ u...ain't takin Jeter there. You also prob could taken Barajas (or someone not much worse) 3-4 rds later. Actually a lot of ur pks seem forced (didn't go and look, that would require real work  ) but I'd be willing to bet that most of ur pks from rds 5-16 were before their ADP, except Storen, maybe Mo.

Good luck.
Always be closing.

Thanks all for your replies. MY co-mgr. was my 32 year old daughter who is an avid baseball fan and a diehard Jeter fan. I really wanted Alexei Ramirez here(he went 2 picks later) but gave in to my daughter's pleas for Jeter.A bit of a strange draft in that many guys went a lot sooner than they should have yet I got A.Reed in round 29! Probably jumped the gun on some mid round picks but there was no rhyme or reason as to when guys were going off the board so I decided to grab my target players even if it was a little early.I'd rather be early on a guy than have someone grab him a pick or two before you, which happened several times in the mid rounds. SP's are a little risky but that's the price you pay for loading up on offense.

I'd rather jump my guys early than wait and end up with players I don't want

haha...this must be Rich. Your daughter was the brains of the operation. This is Andy..we worked together Friday night. The co-manager and the Rivera pick(I remember you posed with his t-shirt own after the pick) gave it away for me to figure out who you were. I agree with the rest..solid team.....good depth.....I like Mayberry alot this year and its not just cuz I am a Phillies fan.

See you in NY.

It was great working with you Andy, and also with Andre. You are both great guys and it was a pleasure to work the Super Draft on Friday night with you guys. Yeah I just had to give in to her pleas for Jeter. She's idolized him since he came up in late '95. That was the father in me letting my heart overrule my head. Alexei Ramirez was clearly the better play at that spot but this is still a game and you need to have some fun with it too. At least I get to root for 2 Yankees this year on my fantasy squad. Usually don't wind up with them since I don't want to make a fan based draft decision.....although I broke that rule last Saturday. See you at the Main Event this Sat. in NY!

I agree with your thought process PGromek. Who cares about ADP? I've patted myself on the back many times for getting a "value" guy who "fell" to me only to regret that pick during the course of the year.If he fell that far and I didn't target him in the first place then he has no business being on my roster. If you spend as many nights and hours researching your target guys like I did, then I firmly believe that you should pick them when and where you think you need to so that they end up on your roster and not somewhere else. Not saying you pick a 15th round guy in round 3 but if he goes a round or so early then so be it.

Yes the NFBC for the most part is no place to let players you want go by and hope they fall.

Funny thing about Mayberry. I'm sure he'll do fine. And I know 6 foot 6 is a a tad tall for player but I hate the way he crouches over at the plate. It makes his swing seem real long. I just wonder if pitchers will find a way to exploit that this year.
