CrAzInEsS in OC Draft!!!

One guy started 7 out of 8 pitchers and has an OF consisting of Joyce, Alonso, Presley, Craig, Brantley. From the 12, he went Kershaw, Verlander, Weaver, Strasburg (4.01), Wainwright, Mariano, Asdrubal, Motte (8.01).

Other Interesting picks...
Ellsbury 2.10 (to the Miggy owner, decent 1-2 combe there)
Longo 2.12/Stanton 3.01 (Will Tyrer took Kemp 1.01 and landed this pair at the 2/3 turn)
Elvis 6.12
Youkilis 10.12
Choo 11.03 (I have no idea and no real rational excuse for why I didn't take him early, other than I already had 3 OF)
Worley 11.04 / Sale 12.09 / Minor 13.04 (same guy took them all b2b2b)
Romero 12.02
Butler 16.05
Dunn 17.10
Cespedes 17.11
Francoeur 18.03
De Aza 24.03

Weird closer picks
Papelbon 4.09
Kimbrel 5.03
Valverde 6.09 (to the Papelbon owner)
Axford 6.11
H.Bell 7.02 (to the Axford owner)
Walden 7.04 (to the Pap/Valverde owner) ?!??!?!!?
Storen 11.10 (13th closer selected, great value if injury is minor)

There's a few really good teams in this draft, due to some really bad drafts by a few teams. Really happy with my team, but Tyrer just sat there at pick 1 and let value after value fall to him. There were a few picks where he had too many guys to choose from that were all just amazing values (he actually passed on Choo at the 10/11 turn in lieu of Youk/Ike). There's a decent chance a Top Overall Contender comes out of this league, even with the one guy monopolizing the pitching.

Where did you pick in this draft?

Unless you were at #2, I don't see how you could pass on Longoria AND Ellsbury in round 2?

Indeed.

Got to the point that I identify the players I want, look at their ADP and take them 1/2 rounds before that. I will have poor 'value' but I have the team I want.

Went Cargo 1 and Cano 2. Had no need for Ellsbury with Cargo already and much prefer Cano over Longo.

Thanks, loved everything except gonna be a little light in steals unless I use De Aza/Figgins a little more than I normally would. Kinda hope to use Dunn/Figgins in some sort of platoon, sitting Dunn when he gets multiple lefties during a series.

It means nobody in their right mind should EVER let Choo get to round 11.

When 7 closers go off the board before 7.05 in a 12-teamer, that creates VALUE elsewhere, no matter what your opinion of what or how much that word actually means.

For a 12 team league, steals look light unless you plan to play De Aza and Venable

OK 12 team league, granted, but how is Ellsbury drafted at #22 ??? Am I reading this correctly?

True, but when a sure fire top 10 guy (Ellsbury) gets drafted at 22, there is a problem. I can see reaching for players that you like throughout the draft, but 22 for Ellsbury, really??

The thing that is hard with a draft like the 12 position team had (all pitchers) is that it would kinda screw the pooch for everyone else going for balance and an overall position. Not only does the team with all pitchers have little chance of even winning the league but many of the attempts at balanced rosters would be messed up too.

Would work the same way if someone tried to corner the market on speed or saves. I would think that every other team in the league would struggle overall.

Normally I would agree, in one of my other OC drafts another team went 10 straight pitchers to start...in that league I don't think anyone is going to challenge in the overall standings, because he took THE best pitchers on the board at almost every pick in those 10 rounds.

This guy last night tho (arguably) reached on Strasburg/Wainwright, probably went a little unnecessarily early on Weaver/Mariano, and most definitely went absurdly early on Motte. So while he did load up and hinder the pitching across the rest of the league, I think there were a few people who ignored SP early that kind of counterbalanced Team 12's pitching assault.

I mean you don't *have* to get Kershaw + a Felix-type to contend in the overall, through 7 rounds these were the other pitching combos:

Price, Cain
No SP (Axford, H.Bell)
Gallardo (Kimbrel)
No SP (Paps, Valverde, Walden)
Cliff, Haren, CJWilson
Sabathia, Bumgarner
Halladay, Lincecum
Moore, Lester
Felix
Hamels, Kennedy
Greinke, Shields

4 of the other 11 teams combined for only two total SP through 7 rounds, which allowed pretty much everyone else to grab at least 2 solid SP through 7 rounds, even with Team 12 loading up.

I realize that didn't happen here - the pitching choices, while large in number, did not in any way corner a market. In some ways they were just plain odd.

Then again I drafted Alexi Ramirez last night instead of Aramis Ramirez. I don't think it is going affect the team that I only kind of like but it was disappointing when I did it. They both show up as A. Ramirez in the queue.

online done tonight from 2 spot

C Avila/Ruiz
1B Freeman/Mike Young
2B R.Roberts
SS Rollins/Yuni Escobar/galvis(will be 2b soon)
3B Zimmerman/Lowrie
OF Kemp/Hamilton/Morse/Melky/Carlos Lee/brantley/Venable

SP Halladay/Latos/Hellickson/Kuroda/Buehrle/Harrison/Nova/Lohse
RP Valverde/capps/Broxton/Mike Adams/Coco Cordero

My thoughts....i dont like 2b...but we waited too long to get one..so roberts it is...as for closers.....we waited too long there as well....so hoping capps/adams/broxton gets us enough saves to equal a solid #2. Coco cordero was a last second grab that was a throwaway most likely to FAAB

like the offense other than speed..hope brantley and venable can help there

3 teams got unreal starts. What they did the rest of the way will possibly give then a chance at OA. I hope I get so lucky to have some morons in my draft.

Wow, look at the draft I just posted under the VanRiper thread. Our hitters consist of many of the same players.. I hope you do well!!
