Pineda to the Minors?
I didn't draft Michael Pineda in any of my leagues this year, but considering he has a ADP of 124 a few others did. I thought the Yankee's ripped the Mariners off when they got him for Jesus Montero, but its going to be tough for fantasy owners if Pineda starts in the Minors in 2012.
Here is the Story From ROTOWIRE.
Manager Joe Girardi hasn't made an official announcement, but it appears that Freddy Garcia may make the Yankees' rotation to start the season, which could leave Pineda looking at a trip to the minors, the New York Post reports.
"When you look at a guy who doesn't have a lot of time [in the majors], you are trying to consider the upside of what you can possibly give because they don't have the same track record as Freddy," Girardi said. The last slot in the rotation appears to come down to Pineda or Ivan Nova, and even that slot is at risk if Andy Pettitte returns in May. If this news decreases what it costs to get Pineda for a keeper league, he becomes a great investment, as he still has #1 starter upside, though his short-term value may not be as high as anticipated.

Bunch of noise. Even if he starts in AAA he'll be up soon enough. The Freddy Garcia magic trick won't last. Maybe he goes 1-2 rounds later as a discount now.

This is exactly why I like to rely on veterans --- where I can. Pineda seems to have all the stuff....but he hasn't done it long enough at the big league level. This could be a real disaster for anyone who took him with a high pick. JMHO

Good young pitchers could be taken with no risk 15 rounds later. Give me Milone, Henderson or Pomeranz late and let someone else gamble on Pineda.TOXIC ASSETS wrote:This is exactly why I like to rely on veterans --- where I can. Josh Beckett 2010 & Cole Hamels 2009 both come to mind as Vet pitchers disappointingTOXIC ASSETS wrote:This is exactly why I like to rely on veterans --- where I can. Re: Pineda to the Minors?
i heard a conspiracy rumor that the Yankees want to deal F.Garcia in a bad way (but they likely won't find a suitor if they demote him to bullpen). The Pineda velocity "mystery" is an INTENDED misdirection so that it allows the Yankees "an out" to put Pineda in the minors for the first couple weeks.Red Sox Nation- wrote:Bunch of noise. Pineda is likely capped between 185-190 innings this year anyways, so he was going to miss a start here and there during the season. With Pineda saying "I have more (velocity coming)", there may be some truth to it. I find it hard to believe that Pineda starts spring games with an 88mph fastball and then mysteriously by the end of the game, he is throwing 94.
Re: Pineda to the Minors?
Mark is actually on the money here. The Yanks want to deal Garcia and haven't found a suitor yet. This lets them hide Pineda for a couple weeks. Take whatever discount the rest of the field gives you, if anything he should actually be valued correctly at this point.

I'm pretty sure that if he is capped, they will include the innings he pitches in the minors. So, regardless of how this ends up, people that were expecting him to be their 3rd or 4th starter have to be disappointed by this news.Gekko wrote:i heard a conspiracy rumor that the Yankees want to deal F.Garcia in a bad way (but they likely won't find a suitor if they demote him to bullpen). Re: Pineda to the Minors?
of course they will count the innings in the minors. being in the minors makes it a lot easier for them to limit his innings or pitch counts. maybe they will shut him down with a "mystery" injury for 2 weeks. if the yankees want pineda pitching in the playoffs, they will need to limit him during the regular season. anyone banking on him throwing 200+ regular season innings this year is fooling themselves.Bobby D wrote:I'm pretty sure that if he is capped, they will include the innings he pitches in the minors. Why do they have to baby him? He threw 171 Innings last season. I see no reason why he can't take that to 200-210 this year. Don't worry about the playoffs. In my scenario the Yankees finish dead last!

Re: Pineda to the Minors?
Now Pineda has "Soreness" in his right shoulder... Isn't that his pitching arm????
Report from ROTOWIRE Friday, March 30th
Pineda struggled in his spring start Friday, giving up six runs in 2.2 innings, and then said after the game that he felt soreness in his right shoulder, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Pineda's spot in the rotation was already in jeopardy, so this outing won't help. If the soreness is anything serious, he may open the season on the DL to give him more time to find his form.

Just saw that Pineda is being sent to the DL!
