$$Trevor Bauer Watch$$

Trevor Bauer is THE minor pitcher to own this year. He's got a couple things going for him:
*arsenal of pitches at his disposal, with fastball/curveball being bread/butter
*compared to lincecum (thought i'd throw that in for the people who like hype...think bryce harper owners)
*back end of arizona rotation held together with bubblegum
*NL West is pitchers division
*in AA last year, 16IP/26K
*in spring training this year, 10IP/9K
*pitched in AA tonight...5IP/7K
ALL ABOARD!

Wasn't Max Scherzer the same hype?

Scherzer only had one pitch back then. Some say he still only has one pitch now!

Bauer is way more in the prospect mold of a Tim Lincecum, Scherzer was hyped, but we're talking about a special pitcher here, not a guy with a straight fastball and no movement (Scherzer threw 72.5% & 71.0% fastballs his first 2 years in the majors, that's not gonna cut it with low 90's top end stuff). Scherzer's gradually thrown more Sliders and especially increased his Changeup % over his first 4 years in the majors, but his K-rate has also declined every season, while his BB-rate hasn't followed suit until last year (his K/BB has gone from 3.1 to 2.7 to 2.6 back to 3.1 last year).
I'm a firm believer than the biggest jump in the Minors is from A/A+ to AA; nearly any decent Major League regular probably succeeded well at A/A+, but not as many absolutely dominate AA to the same degree. While neither guy has a very large sample size -- Bauer's K/9 went from 17.0 in A+ to 14.0 in AA (not including last night), a drop but not a significant one when factoring in the jump in competition. Scherzer's K/9 went from 15.9 in A+ (comparable to Bauer) down to 9.3 in AA, which is both a significant decrease and no where near Bauer's numbers. Both had mediocre walk rates at the AA level, with Bauer recorded 4.3 per 9 last year, Scherzer was at 4.9 in his 14 AA games (3.3 K/BB for Bauer to 1.90 K/BB for Scherzer).
Is Bauer a surefire lock to succeed? Of course not, not many are when you walk 4+ guys per 9, but with Josh Collmenter & Joe Saunders putting batting practice fastballs across the plate, it's going to be a lot sooner than later when we see Bauer in Arizona. For Gekko's and my sakes, I hope he turns out a little more like Tim Lincecum than another Giant prospect with big K and BB numbers, Jonathan Sanchez.

Typically I would agree with you, but on this one, you are wrong. Bauer is the real thing. He is going to be a stud pitcher. If you have seen him pitch, you would see. His Lincecum comparison is very legit. And anyone that strikes out over 200 hitters in 136 innings doesn't need Gekko hype to make him a super stud young pitcher. Sure, there is a chance he completely bombs in the majors, but anyone who has seen him pitch will tell you he is the real thing and will be pitching with Arizona this year... how long they wait, is the big question.

He's already owned in every league so no need for hype. Maybe it's bragging, but either way, nothing matters until he gets called up, and succeeds despite this mega-mush bonanza.

Uh oh.....someone get Gekko rolling!!!
Trevor Bauer - S - Diamondbacks
Diamondbacks pitching prospect Trevor Bauer has been promoted from Double-A Mobile to Triple-A Reno.
Bauer had another dominant effort Saturday for Mobile, tossing seven shutout innings while striking out eight, which evidently was enough to convince the D'Backs that he needed a new challenge. He gave up just one run in four starts for Mobile, striking out 28 over 22 2/3 innings. With Daniel Hudson injured and Josh Collmenter struggling, it's only a matter of time before Bauer gets a shot

I was gonna say... didn't he get drafted in all leagues? I mean, we all knew he was gonna be up sooner (around May) than later (around All-Star Break). I drafted him in the 24th round in a 12-teamer, so I have to imagine he got drafted in all 15 team leagues and most 12 teamers if not all...
