Closer fail

Post by KJ Duke » Mon Apr 16, 2012 9:11 pm

The merry-go-round continues. Santiago lit up for two HRs (so far) to blow the save tonight.

And Matt Thornton and Addison Reed owners are waiting in the wings with baited breath! Oops! I think that I'm one of them. :D :D

If we could please stop the nonsense and give the job to Reed. Thanks,

Santiago is a completely different pitcher when behind in the count. When Hitters sit on his fastball, they really seem to square it up and crush it. Although he has good velocity on his fastball, it doesn't seem to have much movement on it. And as Mitch Williams noted on MLB Network (after a mere 1inning of watching him) his arm action nofticeably slows down when throwing a breaking pitch. Then again, I'm a heavily invested Addison Reed/Greg Holland/Kanley Jansen owner so I may not be the most objective observer.

P.S. Owning closers-in-waiting is like betting the under in basketball, but instead of cheering for turnovers, bricks, & missed free throws, you literally get out of your seat cheering for implosions like tonight for Santiago or Broxton-like meltdowns...Balls, HBP's, HR's allowed become your fantasy gold.

That ball Adam Jones hit was a missile. I would have ducked at the rate that sucker was coming.

Next closers with higher than normal injury risk:
1. JJ Putz
2. Betancourt
3. Street
4. Francisco
5. Marmol
6. Nathan
7. Perez
8. Myers
9. Romo
10. Bell
11. Rivera - only because he is 41

Me thinks 1/2 those above will go down sometime this year or lose thier jobs outright.

Bullpen by commitee may become the next in vogue change. playing lefty/right matchups in the 9th inning.

If you listen closely to the lyrics, Semisonic actually mentions Madson, Soria, Farnsworth, Thornton, Wilson...and several others!

Nothing like watching FRraud blow a win for Gallardo (who I have) and then watching Guerra (who I have) then blow the save. Eff fantasy baseball

Hey, Mike Scioscia: If your 8th inning guy is Kevin Mother F--King Jespen, maybe you shouldn't take Dan Haren out after 85 pitches. Dumbass.

Romo in to pitch the 8th with SF ahead 4-2.

Looks like Casilla get the first opp.

Update: - Casilla comes in 2 groundballs, bloop hit by Pierre, hard hit ball by Victorino that Crawford makes a nice play on to secure save No 1 for Casilla. Fastball looked good - consistently at 95 and attacked the zone.

having Walden, Marmol and Hanrahan and having only 2 saves and barly any opportunities can be irritating... hope to catch up in this category later...

Nothing quite like the double blown save with Balfour/Santiago. That's probably the end of Santiago.

We need managers to think outside the box. Start the game with Aroldis or Cishek for a couple innings, bring in Marshall or Bell for the third and let Bailey and Nolasco close it out from the 4th-9th. I'm texting Dusty and Ozzie as we speak.
