Carted off the field in BP. Hurt his knee

oh, man, that did not look good

I saw the actual injury on YES- looks like a Patella in the knee, went down like he was shot.

Not laughing at the injury....Laughing at the MLB broadcast....

Announcer (to the onfield reporter):
Sweeney, you were there on the field, what did you see.

Sweeney:
I saw the cart that was carrying Mariano off the field!
(and then, a pause)

I didn't hear anything else, I was chuckling so loudly....

Sometimes, because they're there, they think any detail is of utmost import....too funny

Who takes over for him if he's done? Robertson, Logan?

looks like Hells Satans beat me to the punch on this story. I was in the process of posting the same item on another thread and just saw this. Can't believe the most dependable and reliable closer in the game goes down shagging fly balls during BP

Depends.. I think Robertson is the logical choice and probably will get the job, but Soriano is the guy with experience, though he hasn't pitched well since coming to New York.

He'll play next year.

Despite the big money contract Soriano has not shown the ability to close. Robertson has been lights out and had been discussed by those following the team closely as the heir apparent to MO. Too bad that it looks like he'll become that heir apparent sooner rather than later . If Mo is indeed done for the year,it could mean the end of a great career. What a shame if it ends with an injury shagging flyballs in BP .

I agree with this all 1000%. Robertson will be the guy and it will be very sad if this is how the last #42 ends his HOF Career.

I own Rivera in the Main Event Mahwah League 1 and can't even bid on Robertson since he was drafted in 30 th round....ugh!!!!!!! Gave some thought to taking insurance on him but remembered that he hasn't been on the DL for something like 9 years and used it on another player . It's truly a sad day for Yankee fans and all of baseball.

I was watching Jeter talk after the game. He said twice, Mo will be back. If anyone other than Mo and his wife know, it would be Jeter. Jeter probably already had his talk with Mo offering ecnouragment and support and felt confident in dripping "Mo will be back". I also would not be surprised if the Yanks make the playoffs, that he back for that.

Mo is a class act, a great athlete, great pitcher and I for one hope he is back, so he can retire the way he wanted too. I also noticed this year in the games he was pitching, his velocity was higher than it has been the past 2-3 yrs he usually was around 90-91 and this year every outing I saw he was 92-94, mostly 93. so By no means is he done.

Speedy recovery Mo and I look forward to drafting you again next year.

Rafael Soriano is a free agent in my main event league. Lots of speculation in NY about which reliever, Soriano or David Robertson, Joe Girardi opts to go with as his closer. For argument's sake, if it's clear by Sunday that the choice is Soriano, how much does he go for in FAAB? This is different than the other guys like Hector Santiago, Matt Thornon, Santiago Casilla, etc... Soriano is an established closer talent who is still in his prime. Very interesting.

Very sad. Everyone here in the NY/NJ area eulogizing Mo's demise.

I was planning on taking the girlfriend to the Stadium next Saturday for her first game in NY (she grew up an Angels fan in CA). I've spent a lot of time telling her about Monument Park; the grounds crew's YMCA; Jeter and his Bob Shepard introduction; the bleacher creature's roll call. But I don't think anything gives me goose bumps as much as the bullpen doors opening up and hearing Enter Sandman blast in the Stadium. She's gonna miss it.

Just as a side note, my daughter and I were in Fenway for a game last summer and were fortunate enough to be at a game that Rivera came in and eventually saved. I couldn't understand the Bosox faithful booing a guy running in from the bullpen. Guess that goes to show you how much he's respected..lol.

I have autographed pictures of Bucky hitting the HR in Fenway; Jeter diving into the crowd vs. Boston; Mays making the over-the-shoulder in the WS. I've been saying for years that my next piece of memoriblia would be Number 42 jogging in from the bullpen. Might be time to look into that.

Well, We will all get to see now. Breaking news straight out of Mo's mouth- "I will be back and I am playing next year. I am not going out like this". As Jeter said last night, Mo will be back. I cannot think of another athlete with his stature and greatness and commitment to the game, his team, Family, Friends and Fans, that will have the determination and inner drive to be at the top, before he finally retires. this is not some self serivng slob, out of shape ball player, with eroding skills that will be coming back at almsot 43. Mo has aged well and taken care of his body.

Good for you Mo for making a speedy and definative decsion and heres to a speedy recovery.
