Suggestion for next year - based on the number of entries, have some hindsight as to the number of leagues per city. Example, with Tampa taking as long as it did to get to the first 30, to stop it at 2 leagues. It is going to be almost impossible to get to the 45 needed for a 3rd league. I think anyone teleconferencing, which could be me, is at a disadvantage. I want to be able to see the other owners, thumbing thru books, hurrying to make their picks, and so on. What are your thoughts?

What are your thoughts? Considering that we were at 25 in Tampa in mid-January, I never would have expected to cut it off at 30 at anytime. I'm surprised Tampa hasn't done better, but I also know there are several people who have called me to say they are still coming there. So Tampa is my one concern for a full league and a teleconference is definitely possible, unfortunately.



Chicago is at 40 and we'll probably stop at 45 unless we somehow blow past that. Las Vegas is at 127 and 135 would be a fine number. New York is at 97 and I think we can get to 120. So we're watching everything and unfortunately Tampa is the one spot where we could miscalculate, which may make me think twice about that spot for 2007. But maybe we'll get a late rush and stop at 45 there.



If we get:

9+ leagues in Las Vegas

8 in New York

3 in Chicago

2+ in Tampa, we'll be fine.

Thanks Greg, I never thought when I signed up for Tampa there would be an issue for 3 or 4 leagues. Hopefully those that said they were coming will and it will fill, just not a real fan of the teleconferencing

Eight leagues in NYC. Did you mean seven? NYC is still seven owners short of seven leagues and I don't see another 15 after the seventh league fills.

It really isn't any different than any other draft. There is a board in each city. You barely have enough time to watch the board never looking at the other owner to see if they are struggling for players. The board will tell you everything you need to know. Now, if were an auction, yes you would be at a disadvantage.

You obviously don't have as good a view as I do Mike. I might be wrong, but I think you'll see some regulars coming back to New York in the next few days and some newbies. We'll see where it lands, but I usually have a pretty good idea of these things from the phone calls and e-mails I get. We'll see.

Nor did Ron Shandler, who created a First Pitch Forum around our event. I went out on a limb with our management for a fourth city even though it meant stretching our staff thin. There was a lot of feedback from owners who felt Tampa would be ideal and yet we still had people going to Vegas, which is fine.



Remember, we were at 28 in Tampa long before we got that close in Chicago and somehow we went backwards for a bit in Tampa and Chicago will get to 45. We'll just see how this plays out and then act accordingly next year. I know MLB liked the idea of us doing a spot around spring training and maybe next year we'll create a larger event around this spot if we stay there. We'll see.

I was certainly one of the ones pushing hard for a fourth city in the sunny South. I would have expected Tampa to be equal to Chicago in size given easy access, Disney being a short hop up the interstate, accessability to spring training, the First Pitch Forum, and a Hard Rock Casino less than 10 miles from the draft/auction site.



Any fence-sitters out there you should really consider Tampa...for all of the reasons above!

Personally I would of thought Orlando (aka Disney) would have been the ideal place for drafts to be held. With the Braves and Astros in the area and plenty of attractions in the immediate area for the family to keep themselves busy while drafts were being held would have been great. Not too mention fairly inexpensive flights from around the country flying into the Orlando area daily. Just a thought from someone freezing their tush off in the northeast! Can't wait for spring!
