he might be going away for a while after tonight's incident

I just read recently an article about his "make-up" being suspect. I hope someone has a nice talk with him.

He definitely earned himself a suspension.

The 3-1 pitch was off the plate, and the 3-2 was worse. I would hope the ump just "missed" them both, but I doubt it. The called third strike looked like a clear case of don't show up the umpire bravado.

The fan who hit the ump with his drink had better control than Rodney in the 9th.

Lawrie was wrong, yes the umpire's call looked to be wrong, but you show up the umpire and that's what you get. If I were MLB, at least 10 games for Lawrie, anything less would be not enough...

Yeah. Y Molina got 5 games last year for his "spitting" and "bumping" incident. I could see that as the precedent here, but I do think 10 is a possibility due to the helmet being thrown.

Springfield Cardinals Manager tossed his helmet and incidentally hit an ump in a very similar situation last Friday. He got three games. I would guess Lawrie's suspension will be similar.

C'mon, it was on a bounce. One-to-three games is plenty.

Agreed. 10 games is way too much. He didn't throw the helmet at the ump. The bounce was random.

couldn't he just write in the dirt around home plate " I won't show up the ump. ", 50 times?

Maybe not at ump, but certainly was towards him. He is getting 7-10 games.

Totally agree. The little tatt'ed up hothead was running 10 feet up the line before the umpire had a chance to even make the call. You're a rooke, show some respect. If he stays in the box until the umpire has a chance to make the call, he probably draws the walk. He had absolutely no intention of trying to hit the ball, he looked the worst hitter on a Little League team trying to coax a walk by running up the line. Hate when guys do that, it's disrespectful to the umpire, as if the umpire's call is meaningless. He got what he deserved, to be rung up & taught a lesson. I am a Lawrie owner, but I do not let what's best for my fantasy team affect what I think is best for baseball. As a former umpire, I hope the the little punk gets 7-10 games minimum!

If it was not a strike then he did not get what he deserved at all, which is a walk. Very unprofessional of an umpire to make a horrible call to "teach a lesson" as you put it.

He got 4 games, slap on the wrist. Bigger issue is whether he learned his lesson, because he sure looked like an out of control, immature, unprofessional punk.

If that pitch had actually been in the vicinity of the plate, and he had still gone that apeshit, he would've gotten 10.

This was MLB's way of apologizing for two AWFUL strike calls.

Well now Lawrie has 4 days off to contemplate his actions. instead of reflecting on his misdeeds, he'll probably get a neck tattoo like Ryan Roberts. Punk.

Just watched him get called out on Stirke 3, and that kid has got some pent up anger stuff going on. The pitch looked a little outside, but way too close to take. He had better fix his attitude and visual demeanor, or there will be a lot of Umpire ringing him up and squeezing him.

The Strike 2 call was much worse than Strike 3 - and that's saying something because 3 was awful!

I have Lawrie in 2 leagues and just saw the video for the 1st time. WOW.
Rookie Move and it kinda reminded me of Allen Iverson saying," We talking about Practice... Practice."
This kid is talented, but the ash heap of life is filled with talented people who simply don't get it and end up telling the same story on a bar stool for 50 years about how somebody (a ump in this case) screwed them! Keep it up Brett and they will.

Did he even apologize yet? If he didn't that makes him an even bigger punk. 4 games is not enough. He will appeal it down to 2. They should have given him 10-12 which really would have been 6 or 7...

No Apology, in fact the clip I saw yesterday where he was talking about it, he was more arrogant and defiant than humble and apologetic.

Was clearly way outside. I don't see why heading to first is that big a deal I guess. If it was even remotely close, I get it. Assuming you are not showing up an umpire on a ball about a foot outside should be a safe one. I am clearly in the minority.
