Re: Darvish
No where as overpowering as he was hyped to be. The whole hype sounded just like Dice K, he has 6 pitches and throws 95... He'll be OK eventually as a number 3 or 4, but never a Stud pitcher.

Re: Darvish
I would think you are overreacting a little here. To say he is not a stud pitcher right now at this point in time... yes. But eventually a 3 or 4... yikes. Watch his raw stuff. He does have some pretty damn good movement on his pitches which usually translates to success if he knows where it is going. And his history shows he had a pretty good handle on the movement in the past.Outlaw wrote:No where as overpowering as he was hyped to be. His problem right now is he is nibbling instead of pitching to bats. He is facing better competition so he is trying to be too cute. His stuff is good enough that he could pitch to bats and do well. But he is probably trying to live up to the hype instead of just pitching his game. He came over with all this hype so he thinks he has to strike everyone out. Trying to make the perfect pitch.
Right now he is about 50/50 with good starts vs bad starts... I will bet by end of year and next year he is at 80 good / 20 bad. And with his strikeout stuff and an 80/20 ratio, that translates to a stud pitcher. He will never be Greg Maddux-esque but one notch below Verlander from a fantasy perspective is achievable.

"My" Projected Totals Starts 32 inn 205.0 W- 14 L-9 k's- 191 B- 105 H-185 ERA- 3.55 Whip-1.41
current 2012 TEX 12 72.7 7 4 77 44 66 3.716 1.51
We shall see though, whether he can make the adjustments, because it sure seems like MLB hitters/scouts now have a really good book on him and how to approach him as a hitter. He sometimes seems to get lost trying to throw all the variations of pitches he has. take away his 4 good April starts and his numbers really start to get ugly. He is throwing baout 110 pitches a game to get through 6 innings. Only 2 starts did he make the 8th inning.
The jury is still out on him...

Take away his 4 good April starts? I find that laughable. Why don't you take away his 4 worst ones too while you're at it? Then what are you left with to analyze? His other 4 starts; since he has 12 starts.Outlaw wrote:take away his 4 good April starts and his numbers really start to get ugly.
You are the Gekko in the Harper 'debate'!

Why don't you take away 4 games in which Harper has hit a HR. Then he would have 1 home run in 153 PA. He's a Judy!!! His power doesn't translate to the major leagues. Blah, blah, blah!

As for Yu, the walks have been alarming. With his prestine control in Japan, one of the last things I thought I'd see with him is that he leads the AL in walks. Generally speaking, I agree with Scared $ about him being too cute with his location. However, I thought I would have seen more progress to throwing strikes by start #12 yesterday. He was as bad as he's been.
Bottom line is that he has 7 wins in 12 starts and is striking out over a batter an inning. His whip is a killer at the moment, but his ERA is neutral and he is exceptional in W's and K's. My opinion is that he projects very nicely as a #2 - in fantasy and real life. I think that's what the Rangers thought they were getting as well.

Re: Darvish
Screw this guy. He's a WHIP nightmare. I guarentee you he won't be pulled from the free agent pool when dropped

Re: Darvish
Wins and ks are as expected but, yes, WHIP is not what Yu owners expected. When my other pitchers are struggling in WHIP, it's so important to have your top couple of starters help control the damage and Yu is not helping there, just making it worse. Not sure what number starter he is for others, but he is my #2 in the main and, so far, just not good enough.
