So far, there have been some huge surprises and disappointments in MLB. There are some clear cut winners, so far, and some, not so much. Here's what I think... agree?
AL MVP - Josh Hamilton - Hands down, the best player in the league on the best team in the league. If he stays healthy, he is the winner. Gotta like Paul Konerko and Adam Jones as well.
NL MVP - Carlos Gonzalez - 16 HRs 48 RBIs 48 Runs .322 Avg 9 SB - He doesn't play on a great team, so if Kemp (and his 1.16 OPS) could come back and play like he did in the first month of the year, I don't think he needs to put up very lofty stats, in order to win this year, especially after he barely lost last year.
AL Cy Young - Chris Sale - Tough call at this point in the year, but he has been brilliant, tied for the league in wins and leading the league in ERA and WHIP. I don't think anyone saw this coming, or the White Sox leading their division.
NL Cy Young - Gio Gonzalez - As much as I wanted to write RA Dickey in this section, I have to give it to Gio, especially with his team winning the division.
AL Comeback Player of the year - Adam Dunn - No question.. hands down winner
NL Comeback Player of the year - Johan Santana - Only time will tell if the no-hitter took everything out of him, but considering where he came from, he is the winner so far. I don't see anyone else who is remotely close
AL Manager of the year - Considering his team is in 1st place and no one expected him to be there, you gotta give it to Robin Ventura
NL Manager of the year - The manager with the 2nd best winning percentage in MLB history. None other than Davey Johnson
A few of my own personal awards -
Biggest surprise of the year - RA Dickey - No one expected this... absolutely no one
Biggest disappointment of the year - Where do I start, Pujols (even though he might still get 30-100), Ryan Zimmerman, and many others qualify, but no one has been as disappointing as Tim Lincecum 2-7 with a 6.00 ERA.. Wow
Best Young fantasy Stud - Eventually Mike Trout or Bryce Harper will overtake him, but Jason Kipnis is putting up big fantasy numbers as a 2nd baseman. So far he is the man.
Worst Young fantasy Stud - Erik Hosmer - Yes he has 7 HRs and 30 RBIs, but not much else and he was drafted in the 2nd round in most leagues. Lawrie hasn't been great, but at least he is hitting .275. Matt Moore has been rather disappointing as well.
Most shocking Stat of the year - 70.2 IP, 74Ks, 3.18 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, ZERO Wins - Cliff Lee
