Clemens Aquitted on all counts. Does he make the HOF? I say yes.

more government dollars at waste.. they are really getting good at this now.

as far as HOF who cares. some of these writers who do the voting think they are bigger than the event. some players who clearly should be in on the first ballot get votes held back for all sorts of silly reasons. when i was growing up the 80's it felt like a magical moment when someone got in, now it feels like some sort of advertising spectacle with everyone trying to grab as much limelight as possible and often times its not even the players getting into the HOF. After santo got voted in AFTER passing away Ive lost all respect in the process and the people voting on it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but technically he was tried and acquitted of lying to the grand jury.

He wasn't acquitted of taking steroids, although you may infer that.

I know they may go hand in hand, but....

I believe he was acquitted of lying to Congress and stating to Congress that he never took steroids or PEDS. The Congress/gov’t felt he lied on that point and that is why he was indicted and brought to trial. Specifically it was Henry Waxman who initiated the investigation and determined that he was lying.

So the way I read the indictments was, he was charged with lying that he never took PEDS and they felt he did. He was acquitted of lying to congress. Had they proved he was lying, they would’ve proved he used PEDS. He cleared his name. As for some History, when Clemens found out his name was in the Mitchell report, he adamantly denied it and in fact almost demanded that he be allowed to testify to congress under oath to state he didn’t use PEDS. He chose to fight and clear his name from the day the Mitchell report was released and good for him for standing up and trying to protect his name. No other player ever mentioned in the same breath as PEDS or accused or rumored to have used, has ever fought as hard as Clemens did.

No one should think that the past 5 years was easy for him or his family. The Gov't even offered him a plea deal that included no jail time and he flat out said no. He spent millions to defend himself, knowing full well all speculation and rumors were against him. Most people unfortunately either wouldn’t have the money or would want to spend it if they did to clear their name and that is the shame. I for one, as a Tax payer, think it is utterly ridiculous that well over 50 Million Tax Dollars was spent just on him and Bonds to go after these guys for this stuff.

One last point I'll offer was, while the country was going down the fiscal drain in 2008, most of the people in congress were more concerned with this crap that was in the NFL, MLB and sports in general. Now, 5 years later the country is in even worse shape fiscally while these incompetents are still at the wheel.

Clemens earned his HOF career, lest someone be able to show indisputable proof he didn’t. Everyone can have their opinion and that is mine. Facts, like numbers, never lie.
