I am attempting the seemingly impossible feat of dropping from first place at the All Star Break to last place by season's end. Most likely I will fail in this bold undertaking, but it will not be from lack of effort or ingenuity. I have a morbid curiosity as to the historical context into which my 2012 Main Event squad's collapse falls. Who of you out there can lay claim to the distinction of worst freefall in NFBC history? Who am I trying to eclipse and how daunting a task is still ahead of me.
At the ASB, I had 112.0 points in NY league 5. This afforded me a 1.5 point lead over the second place team. I was 23.5 points clear of 4th place, so a money finish looked like a good bet. My team was # 26 in the overall standings. In just 4 weeks, I have dropped to 4th in NY 5. (I did slip to 7th a few days ago before Cole Hamels had the audacity to throw a shutout for me.) Overall, I'm now at #158 and dropping steadily.
Strangely enough, as we reached the ASB I had just managed to address the two biggest shortcomings on my squad. I finally got the second saves source I lacked the whole first half, plus I signed a second catcher who can actually hit. Imagine that. My starting pitching had overachieved in the first half so regression was anticipated there, but the extra saves source should have helped alleviate some of the inevitable ratio points.
Frankly I don't know the what the hell has happened. I've had a few injuries, but no more than anyone else. I have a lineup full of hitters in which no one outside of Andrew McCutchen is hitting at all. Since the ASB, my team's weekly finishes in the overall competition have been 380, 237, 416, and 399.
If you have the embarassing stigma of fielding the worst collapse in NFBC history, fear not. Your name will soon be erased from the ledger of infamy!

You should rename your squad The Old "James" McDonald's.

I would rename my team "Romney's Mitts" if I thought it would help.

The second half from hell continues unabated.
Thru Jul 12 (all star) break : First Place 112 points total. 26 overall out of 420
Thru Aug 24: Ninth Place 75.5 points total. 200 overall.
This current week is noteworthy in that it does NOT stand out. The level of putridity fits right in with the rest of the post All-Star break ineptitude.
Mon-Fri
Pitching: 4.84 ERA, 1 win, 1.359 WHP, 26 K, 1 SV
Batting: .216 BA, 19 R, 1 HR, 18 RBI, 5 SB
The most pathetic thing throughout this demoralizing freefall is that I am actually still trying. It's as if my entire squad is on a daily regimen of performance inhibiting drugs.
Bad Pitching - check
Bad Hitting - check, check and double-check.
Injuries - check, but not as many as one might think for a crash and burn like this.
Bad Luck - check. Nice 6-run 9th inning gag job by ChiSox bullpen to dropkick away a win for Peavy.
Damn it Jim, I'm a buffoon, not a miracle worker!
