This Is The Wildest Main Event Race Ever!!!

Wow, is this year's NFBC Main Event ever the craziest one we've ever seen. Not only is there a lot of interest because Chad Schroeder has a chance to make history -- and win a lot of loot -- by winning both the Main Event and the NFBC XII, but the race is so close that any number of teams are still in the hunt for the overall title.
Three teams have all had the overall lead in the last three days: Chad Schroeder, Kevin Kirves and John Pausma. Today we wake up to find Pausma in the lead by 1 point over Kevin and 3 points over Chad. Just unreal. Good luck the rest of the way everyone. I think a few sleepless nights are in order over the next 7 weeks.
Here's the Top 10 teams through last night, with Stephen Jupinka owning two teams in the Top 8:
1 Dutch Mafia John Pausma Main Event St. Louis League 1,931.0 1,624.0 3,555.0 -2.0

Chad was able to extend his lead in the NFBC XII last night, but remember that NFBC Hall of Famer Lindy Hinkelman and his son Gabe are charging hard. Here's the Top 10 as of this morning for the 12-Team Main Event, which has also become a fun, fun race:

It does look like it is shaping up to be a great finish. Every move from here on out could be the difference. Good luck to all and have fun with it.
On a side note, I noticed how the top three of the Main Event leaders, and five of the top six are from the first weekend. Given that there is nearly twice as many leagues in the second weekend, this is probably more than just a coincidence. You fellows that drafted in both weekends have any thoughts on why this might be?

Should be an interesting race between Kevin and John, and I would be surprised if another team or two don't make a big push as well. What I do know, is that my team won't be in the conversation much longer. I look at that that team now compared to the all star break and want to head to the fridge for a beer.
While I have had the privilege of chatting with John a bit the last month or so and really like him, there is a part of me hoping Keven can take this down since my band of castoffs and drunks are not going to get it done. We are the two biggest amounts owed in the wake of Dustin and the WCOFF. Knowing how pissed that still makes me, it makes me hope for Kevin at least being able to take a little sting off that feeling, if only for a little while. There isn't a better player around than him, in my view. Would be a very worthy winner, as would John obviously.

I find it exciting and encouraging that the two people who lost the most money with WCOFF's debacle remained in the industry and now have a chance to cash in a big way in our contest. It would have been easy for Chad and Kevin to walk away from this industry after each of them were screwed out of $200,000+ in owed prize money last year by Dustin and Jesse. Hell, wouldn't you walk away from a goofy industry that stole your prize money?
I don't know how else to say it: Chad paid his entry fees in full including a $25,000 entry fee league, won that league and never got paid. He won the 2010 WCOFB and never got paid in full the $200,000 grand prize. Kevin won last year's WCOFB and didn't get paid a penny of the $200,000+ in grand prizes and league prizes. Now who would stick around after that?
But both trusted us enough to play baseball in 2012 and fortunately both won and got paid by us in 2011 to ease some of the sting. Now Chad is on the verge of a historic payday -- although, like he said his Main Event team is struggling to stay on top -- and Kevin is dominating his Super League, his Main Event league and has a chance for the overall title and a second Main Event payday. He's having one helluva year -- his second in a row -- and this time he KNOWS he's getting paid. Thanks for sticking around Kevin.
And John is sandwiched in the middle, knowing he also won a national championship two years ago in our NFFC and actually got paid the $50,000 grand prize. He's happy he never lost in the WCOFB, but he now has a chance to win big in the NFBC. Good luck to everyone in the hunt for these titles and thanks to all of the people who stuck in our industry even after what happened across the street. I'm embarrassed for our industry by that, but hopefully we can all put that behind us and not let it happen again. Buyer beware, but game operator be true.

And just for good measure, I'll let you know that Chad is in another dogfight in the NFBC Diamond League, where we have a $75,000 league prize. There are four teams that have been battling it out for the top spot and the money spots (we pay $10,000 for 4th place here) and anything can happen over these last 7 weeks. It really is an amazing race, with Chad currently leading Will Tyrer, Donn Johnson, Glenn Schroter, KJ Duke, Jim Ferrari and Rob Silver. But any of those teams could finish Top 4 and maybe even someone else.
Here's the current standings:
NFBC Diamond League
Cocktails and Dreams 109
Marsupials 107
coldwater coyotes 106.5
King of Queens 105
~KJ~DMD~ 91
Team kimo 89
Brooklyn Deckers 82

Just to put in perspective, if the season were to end today that half point in the Main Event would cost Chad $155,000!!! I know we have a long ways to go Chad so this is all hypothetical, but it still is pretty amazing. The half point right now separates Chad from $100,000 to 2nd place's $20,000 and of course we have the $75,000 cash bonus for anyone who wins both the NFBC XII and the NFBC Main Event. Of course, Chad is already leading the NFBC XII, so first place in the Main Event is worth an additional $155,000 rather than second place!!
Watch every stat guys. The race is that tight this year.

I agree that it's fun to watch!!
Hey Greg - Do you have Any updates with the technology piece of adding "live" stats for the overall competition?
I know you mentioned it would be coming in August and I'm thrilled to see it!

I check everyday to see if it's been added!!

Sorry for the delayed response Dave, but I knew I was heading to Chicago today for meetings and could see the progress first-hand. I didn't want to provide an update until I knew exactly where we were on all of the improvements.
Our entire focus since April has been on improving two facets of our software:
1. The Live Scoring
2. Adding Live Overall Standings for the national contests
I will explain this in more detail in a separate thread soon, but bottom line is that our original goal was to get Live Overall Standings done by mid-season or so. But the emphasis soon turned to improving the Live Scoring and rewriting the code needed to speed that up and add more features to what we had. There was criticism of our Live Scoring in May and in order to improve it we really needed to rewrite everything, test it in full and add in the features folks want at this level. I saw what it looks like today and the speed is phenomenal and the added features will keep you up to speed on the count of every pitch and out in that game. You're going to like this and the same speed will be there when the NFFC begins in September.
I'll explain why our Live Scoring was where it was before now and why it took months to rewrite the code to get it to where it will be shortly, but blame me if you'd like. The good news is that in a few weeks we'll roll this out and you'll really enjoy the improvements to the Live Scoring. We've also made great strides in the Live Overall Standings and we're continuing to test that and try to improve the speed with so many teams in that data base, but we'll have it done before season's end. It will make September more enjoyable as we watch the races for the big money in real-time. Again, our goal is to unveil Live Standings in football and shortly after that for baseball.
The great news is that once we get this done it will be done for good. We own the software and we can just continue to improve it from there. Others who enter this space can hire someone to run their back-end software, but it's great to own this ourselves and continually improve it the way NFBC owners want it. We made major, major strides in improving the features you want going forward: the best Live Scoring and Live Overall Standings. They're not viewable yet, but the hard work over the last few months will be seen this season. Give us a little more time and you'll see this and enjoy this. Thanks for asking.
