Miggy or Trout?

Post by Money » Thu Nov 15, 2012 2:02 pm

Who ya got for the MVP today? I got Miggy but my vote is biased because I'm a Detroit guy. Both players are very deserving and in any other year each would win with their stats.

I think Miggy will win it by virtue of the Triple Crown. If he'd have finished second in any category the award would be going to Mr. Trout.

Its gonna be Miggy because of the Triple Crown! What a year for both guys!
Posey in the National League! If it weren't for Braun's mishap in the lab last year, I would say Braun Back To Back!

Now that's a statement i don't get/can't agree with. Braun's lab issue shouldn't effect anything. He actually had just as good if not a better season this year, even with several nagging leg injuries. If anything his great year should have validated that he was telling the truth. Unless you think he would be dumb enough to keep taking testosterone even after getting "caught". I don't buy that. The fact that he had arguably an even better year afterward should prove that maybe he had a legitimate argument over his innocence. Maybe i'm just being a naive brewers fan. But to me, if you think his numbers should win him another mvp then he should win another mvp. The failed drug test (that never should have been made public) shouldn't effect anything. The only argument i would be willing to listen to is the one that says the brewers didn't make the playoffs so he can't be the mvp.

Miggy. How can you not reward a Triple Crown champion who led his team to a divisional title, league title and a World Series appearance? (I know, votes are made before the playoffs, but still...)

Same for Posey. He was clutch all year. I think Braun had an even better year this year than his MVP year, but voters won't give it to him again. He will finish behind Posey this year and rightfully so.

Not sure I understand this (and you are not the only one who uses this as a reason) - it is NOT a second Triple Crown award and for the Trout supporters it is NOT for the "best" player or most WAR.

The award should be voted for Most Valuable (to his team) Player - and this year, changing positions and not totally sucking at 3B and leading Detroit from opening day through the entire season the award should go to Cabrera - without him the Tigers don't come close to winning the AL Central.

Trout had a GREAT rookie season but he didn't help the Angels win their division - or even get close and while not his fault, he didn't even play the whole season.

My vote to Miggy and I think he will win it

As far as Braun goes, I love the guy and DON'T Think he cheated. I just don't think all the guys voting feel the same way and I think some will hold this against him for awhile or always. Posey won by a lot, so who cares. Deserving.

Ya, a distant 2nd for Braun. I had no delusions of him actually winning, as I agree with you 100%, the voters will hold it against him, even though nobody ever should have known about the positive test, and he had an even better year this year, but whatever, Posey was a deserving MVP. As for the AL, I would have voted for Trout. Miggy was definitely the best hitter in baseball, and very deserving of the MVP in his own right, but I think Trout was the better all-around player (as his WAR illustrates). He was great with the stick, on the basepaths, and in the field. Very fun player to watch. Angels even won more games than the Tigers, but didn't make the playoffs. Miggy got hot at the right time though, and Trout slumped a bit down the stretch, so I can definitely see why Miggy won the MVP. Owning both this year on my Online Championship winning team was a fun ride, and I certainly have those 2 to thank (as well as both Cy Youngs, Price and Dickey) for my $60k.

$60k... Nice work! Ya, they both were fun to watch and I honestly think the fact Miggy won the Triple Crown made it next to impossible for Trout to win. Just my opinion! Have a good one!

Was talking about this with a friend last night, we came to the consensus that if Josh Hamilton had won the HR title, that Miggy still would've won the MVP with 2/3 of the Triple Crown categories -- HOWEVER, if Mike Trout had won the Batting Average while Miggy took the HR/RBI, then Trout probably would've won the award.
