Our 8th signup for this league came in this morning through a phone call with yours truly. I talked with Marcel Bilak of Las Vegas, Nevada this morning and Marcel is looking to do a pair of $375 Draft Champions Leagues before again joining us in Las Vegas for the live events. Marcel is an NFBC veteran who I first met in the sports card industry as he owns a card shop in Las Vegas. He's joined us for the Main Event in Las Vegas the last couple of years and has had good success in our contests over the years.
Last year he joined a couple of early Draft Champions Leagues in December when everyone was fired up to draft. Unfortunately, he also had medical problems during the early rounds and had to spend some time in the hospital. He had a heart condition during a time when his father was dying of cancer. His father actually passed away during these drafts, which as some owners have posted already took longer than any other drafts because Marcel didn't always make his picks within the 8 hour period. And when owners got on him to make his picks, he didn't help the cause when he let them know he was taking his time with every pick. Maybe that was a better response than letting 14 other guys know your dad is dying, but either way it didn't help the cause.
Anyway, it was an experience everyone learned from last year and now we have some owners letting others know they should be careful to join leagues that could take a long time. Well, I'm here to tell you that I've talked with Marcel this morning and he has assured me that we won't have any problems like last year and he will be ready to select his players in an appropriate time. He has seen how his name is now a verb to some NFBC owners and it's time to move on and trust him to pick as fast or faster than anyone else signing up for 2013 Draft Champions Leagues. And those owners who have any issues with Marcel can meet him in Las Vegas on the First Weekend of live drafts. I'll gladly introduce you to him.
