Offered Chicago Cubs Season Tix!

Post by ChiScottieBaseball » Tue Dec 25, 2012 9:27 am

Well, I was offered one of the greatest Christmas presents one can ever get, except for a few things, but the Cubs notified me a few days ago and I received the official postcard yesterday that I now have the opportunity to buy Season Tickets. I have to go to Wrigley in early January to pick out my seats. I cannot wait! I have heard rumors that the waiting list is 150,000 deep. I have been on the list for it seems like about 10 years. Upper Deck Reserved OF seats start in the $1,600 range for one ticket and the higher it goes. I also like a special combo Bleacher 57 game plan they have, which includes all night and weekend games, Labor Day and Opening Day. For the combo plan you would only get 2 playoff games per series, for the full package you would get the opportunity to buy all the games in the playoffs. What would you guys get?

Unfortunately, this means that I won't be able to participate in any live drafts this year Greg and I'm sorry about that but I will try my best to make it in 2014. I am still hoping to pick up an online draft or two. I wish all of you the best Merry Christmas with your family and friends and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Merry Christmas to you as well Scottie! What would I do? What you described above sounds more like a punishment than a present! I would pass on the tix and attend the live drafts. Surely the Cubs will be out of it by all star break and you can pick up as many tix as you could possibly want for cheap dollars. Best of both worlds!

Very funny about the Cubs tickets :) The problem is if I don't buy them now I will go back to the bottom of the list, which I hear is 150,000 deep. We all figure they probably wont make the World Series in 2013, but who is to say they won't in the next 10 years?

I have to agree with John. It does sound more like a punishment than a blessing. Season tickets are like a bad time share, unless revolving your life around those tickets, it is not a good investment.
Does the obligation of hauling your butt to all those games meet the lifestyle that you're in now?
Personally, the freedom of picking when I want to go or not go to a game far outweighs being bound to go.

But, you'll have to consider this source. I do not have a rooting interest in any professional franchise.
The Cubs blood may course through your veins. I have relatives and friends that follow franchises everywhere.
They'd buy season tickets.
To me, it is a cumbersome, burdensome, and some other 'some' obligation.
A sentencing to watch the mediocre-ist of mediocrity in Major League Baseball.
I'd rather spend my moolah on a fantasy team and having the opportunity to do something else besides buying into a time share of Wrigley Field.
By the way, the 150,000 waiting list sounds like a story that gets taller with each telling. The Cubs Management sure as heck won't dispute it though.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

I agree, Scott is making this sound like a death sentence, which it probably is when you watch this team for a full year!!

I think a lot of Cubs fans sell portions of their tickets to friends, family or online and come out ahead each year. It happens at Lambeau Field and other venues as historic as Wrigley Field. I hardly doubt you've quit your day job to watch 81 home games. This season ticket package sounds like a windfall, not a punishment.

But enjoy the day games Scott and the NFBC will be here should you return.

Thanks Greg and others for your comments. I thought long and hard about this. I know it's a losing investment for the couple of years but I think with Epstein we will finally turn this thing around shortly.

Like Greg stated, I will not be going to all 81 games, I already have a list of friends from work who are willing to take the tickets off my hands for the games I can't go to, and I will even sell the tix to them for a little discount. The games they don't want and I can't attend I will sell online.

I'm heading down to Wrigley this Saturday to pick out my seats. If there isn't anything I like left then I might buy in to a NFBC live event team this year Greg. I will keep you guys posted...

Better get there early .My son and i used to have season tickets to the tigers .We got there we thought early to pick out seats. We were way late all the best go very very fast. You might want to get there about 5am . I know that sounds early but for the cubs even that you might be way back in line .Good luck getting anything better than nose bleed if latter than 5am .I have been to many cubs games always park at mcdonalds . Hard to get good seats .Myself i would not pay that much money if all you can get is nose bleed .Better to take a shot at main event and just go to the games you want .

Well, I finally went yesterday and became a Chicago Cubs ticket holder. One of the happiest days of my life. I'm in SEC 204 Terrace Res OF (2 seats), it's in the Left Field but it is covered and has a nice view. They also gave us a free Wrigley Field Scoreboard desk item that reads "Chicago Cubs Season Ticket Holder," a Cubs "season ticket holder" license plate and a Ron Santo commemorative yearbook style book.

If anyone lives in the Chicago area and wants me to include them on my e-mail list for tickets that I can't use and will be selling let me know...

Congrats on getting tickets.

This year will be my 7th season with tickets. I share 5 seats with a couple of other guys. We have moved our seat location a couple of times, this season we will be in Sec 102.

Enjoy Opening Day (I'm predicting an Edwin Jackson vs Marco Estrada matchup) and maybe I'll see you before the game.Image

Navellint, thanks! Being a first time season ticket holder, is there anything I should know?

What sections did you have before and what was your favorite? I was hoping to get UD Res this year, but they were all sold out. I'm hoping for UD Box 1st row on the aisle next year or do you think being on the ground level is better. I know that the 100 level seats are not built on a decline so if you have someone tall sitting in front of you, you're stuck.

Also, some other guys were talking about the United Club at Wrigley, and it costs $900 for the whole year and DOES NOT include drinks and food. Sounds like a rip off to me. Did you guys ever go in there?

Yes, that the Cubs haven't won the World Series in 105 years!

Nice job getting season tickets at Wrigley! Every time I walk into Wrigley and lay eyes on that grass, the ivy, the lights and the stands, I feel like I am on looking at history before me.
We might not have won the world series in over 100 years, but hay at least we have the best fans! :D
