Nats Closer

Post by Gekko » Tue Jan 15, 2013 3:19 pm

Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Nationals and Rafael Soriano have agreed to a two-year, $28 million contract.

I have a number of teams already this year, but fortunately was never on the selecting end of Storen or Clippard. I almost took Storen in 1 league, but when I researched him, I found out that he received death threats from his playoff implosion and word on the street here (close to Washington) was that management didn't trust Storen and he would not be the Nats closer in 2013.

As for Clippard, his pricepoint was always too high for me to buy.

I did take the gamble (multiple times) on Soriano securing a fulltime gig. :)

Then the Nats should trade Storen. He can close and he can get the job done. TRADE HIM!!!

Perhaps he can/will but for now the Nationals are looking to win the World Series and not trade an asset and Clippard and Storen setting up Soriano should work pretty darn well

It won't work if he's one of your closers on your XFL team!!

tru dat Greg but at least you can bench him and possibly use him later - more likely I will have to drop him altogether in an NL only keeper league

Ironic that the guy that traded you Storen kept Soriano for $10

They'll say 'Boras did it again'
He had Soriano turn down 13.3 from the Yankees.

Then, there's this-

'ESPN's Jim Bowden reports that Rafael Soriano's contract with the Nationals will pay him $7 million in 2013 and 2014, with $14 million in deferred payments that start in 2018.
With the contract spread out so much, the Nats will actually "only" be paying Soriano an average of $11.8 million per season'

Washington got a sweetheart deal. Even with Storen and Clippard, a sweetheart deal.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Good point Dan, and you can bet Boras is taking his percentage off of the full $14 mill

I guess the Nats didn't want the Braves to be the only team in the division with a stacked bullpen.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
