Jesus Montero

So with the trade of Jaso, does that mean the Mariners are serious about Montero being their starting, full time catcher? I know he appeared in 56 games last year at catcher, but primary catcher? Downgrade all Seattle starting pitchers even more (sorry, that is the Gekko coming out in me)!
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Is it possible that they think Mike Zunino is ready to be an MLB catcher? Defensively, he might be. He sure got rave reviews in the AFL.

I actually agree with Joe Sheehan that this was a bad trade for Seattle - that Jaso was a better piece for them than yet another 1B/OF/DH hitter who can't get on base much of the time .... BUT again may well point to the fact that they plan to get Zunino up much quicker this year

If Zunino is up faster, and with many that can fill the DH slot, I wonder if this trade in away will cost Montero atbats?

Seattle is not a very progressive organization. Those pitchers coming, have seemingly been in the pipeline a long time. None rushed.
It's tough to imagine them 'Bryce Harpering' Zunino, simply because they won't be in a pennant race and there's no hurry.
One vote for them making a small deal or re-signing Miguel Olivo.

I do wonder how long Billy Beane has lusted after John Jaso.
