The OC - Share your (all star) team Thread
Let me start by saying, I do not like the 12 team format, but had to throw my hat in the ring and wanted to do a "real time" draft. Not the greatest results for me. I was drafting from the 12 spot, and lost pretty much every guy I wanted, about 2-3 picks before mine. As you can see, I suffer from a low BA and probably light on speed, unless Billy Hamilton is called up early.... Hope for the best in FAAB. A little less than a 3 hour draft and just a few issues

This is why i would rather play in 15 man leagues .All these teams look like winners when lined up against my 15 man teams .Looks like you guys all did a good job .As in the 12 man football compared to 14 man football you can't compare .Good luck with these 12 man leagues i'll stick to 15 .
Re: The OC - Share your (all star) team Thread
I heard the same argument against the 12 team leagues last year. Your point is actually the exact reason you should be playing 12 team leagues, although I won't go into detail on why that is. Go figure out what it takes to win the 12 team overall, it's not a whole lot different than the 15 team. One only needs to go look at the NFBC XII overall standings to see that the NFBC's best flourished in this format. If you are good at the 15 team event, it gives you a big head start. Yes a slacker can sneak in once in a while (I'm living proof) but this is what attracts new players to the format.hot and cold wrote:This is why i would rather play in 15 man leagues .All these teams look like winners when lined up against my 15 man teams .Looks like you guys all did a good job .As in the 12 man football compared to 14 man football you can't compare .Good luck with these 12 man leagues i'll stick to 15 .
Many of the best players do agree with though. I've heard rumblings that they want a $2,500 Super main event (15 team leagues) while doing away with the NFBC XII. In my opinion the NFBC would be shooting themselves in the foot with this approach. I think the NFBC XII should be the same entry fee and prize structure as the Main Event. You would then truly grow your business.
Good luck this season, we're almost there!!!!

Hey Joe. I heard you make the same arguement in the chat room of the Mia draft and that is why I joined the OC league yesterday. I agree that the 12 team structure is definitely needed, but as you can see from the amount of signups for the NFBC XII this year, it appears that most of the live drafters appear to favor the 15 team. But, the success of the OC last year and probably again this year appears to show that the 12 team format will probably move forward as a very successful online event, to appear to the masses of the lower priced format. Once spending $1,000-$1,500, it seems as though most are flocking over to the 15 team event. This is not saying that the 12 team format is not a challenge. It is definitely not my favorite, for the reason that, I never seem to win...Money wrote:I heard the same argument against the 12 team leagues last year. You have, simply put, become the face and poster child for the slow draft events. Continue to promote those while the rest of us chase the real Gold.

There are a couple of points I try to get across when promoting the 12 team format. One is from the players perspective and one from the business perspective. I truly think the 12 team format also helps grow the 15 team format, you can't lose sight of that. I didn't have a main event team last year, but now think I might be ready this year. As a new player you cannot realistically jump into the NFBC 15 team format and expect to have a great deal of success. The NFBC XII and online events bring new players to the NFBC. With all the exposure this year it's important that the new guys have a format that is comfortable to them.
As for the participant side of it, if you're good at the 15 team stuff, there is no reason you shouldn't be in the 12 team format. The best players recognize their weakness almost immediately. The 12 team format has a bigger free agent pool to pull from to correct those weaknesses. I keep repeating myself, but go back and look at the NFBC XII overall standings, the top 20 is packed with all of the NFBC heavyweights.
Good luck this season, I hope to see you in Vegas.

I know you had some success in the 12 team format last year (which is likely why you are a big fan of the 12 team format this year). Let me ask you this, if you don't experience success in the 12 team format this year, what will the gameplan be for 2014?
Chase the real gold? maybe you didn't realize a $150 entry nets $1,000 for 1st and a chance at the overall leaderboard. AND, i don't have to spend time doing FAAB AND i can minimize the impact of injuries by buying many, many teams.
Re: The OC - Share your (all star) team Thread
Mark,
My game plan is very simple every year. I simply want to improve and be better than I was the year before. I'll probably never repeat last years success but given the opportunity again I'll be better off for it. A couple of years ago I had no clue about the value of the additional roster spots, how to manage injuries, pitching and FAAB. Ok, I still suck at the free agent stuff. The point is you learn each season and trying to learn against the best in the NFBC in the 15 team format is very difficult. The 12 team format last year kept me in the game, because I was ready to hang it up.
I love the draft champions format and its prize structure. I'm simply not a big fan of people taking to the boards and knocking the 12 team format. Good luck this year I think you've nailed the draft champions format, I wouldn't be surprised to see you have multiple teams right up at the top. Good job on the radio show last week. I hope you make it to Vegas.

Re: The OC - Share your (all star) team Thread
Here, here. Same to you Mark. It appears you're on to something as the top prize in the Draft Champions is now $15,000 and will probably end up making it to $20,000. My goal is to give my third team a shot at that one.Gekko wrote:Here's to continued success Joe
