Gyorko

Post by BK METS » Fri Mar 15, 2013 2:30 pm

With the 2nd base job all but won, Jedd Gyorko and his eventual MI eligibility could mean sleeper value after the 10th round. His ADP since March 1st is 237. I am curious where he is going in the most recent OC's since the announcement that he will be the starting 2nd baseman. I was lucky (brilliant :D ) enough to pick him as my 1st round (6th) minors pick in the NFBC Keeper league and have him in one more league, but passed on him in other leagues for the more certain guys.

Would love to hear where he is going right now.. Too bad we don't have a date feature on the ADP. Is it possible he can go prior to round 10?

Some other interesting rising and falling players:

Falling
Teixeira - ADP is 150 since March 1st, Went in the 18th round in the OC on Wednesday
Pence - ADP is 119 since March 1st, went 156th in OC
Uggla - ADP is 175 since March 1st, went 225th in OC

Rising
B Harper - ADP - 26 in slow drafts, 19 since March 1st, and 11th in recent OC
Altuve - ADP - 93 in slow drafts, 66 in recent OC
Cespedes - ADP - 38 in slow drafts, 16 in recent slow draft

(6 brutal days left  )

Big difference is Gyorko has 30-100-.300 potential unlike the other guys you mentioned.

Your right. Kendrick was going to be a batting Champ.
There's always a 'big difference' in the new guy on the block and the others that didn't make it.

It's been pretty much assumed that he was going to start anyway. Now that it truly comes to pass, he gets a jump in rounds?
Why?
He's the same player. The same player that really hasn't done all that well in spring training since a red hot start.

30/100 in the PCL and that is expected to translate to PetCo?....Hmmmm

I never understood why Lawrie and Hosmer were going that high and I personally wouldn't draft an unproven guy in those rounds. But after the 10th round, I think it is worth a risk, to have a MI who has potential power and BA. Not many of those guys around.

truth be told in our oc the other night I was taking him when all of a sudden I felt like I needed a catcher and changed my mind at the last second and then watched him go off the board before he mad it back

I can't see him with those type of numbers, maybe someday in a career year.

I think he fits somewhere in the range of Neil Walker - Stephen Drew - Gordan Beckham. Solid filler at MI, a little better or worse than avg, but unlikely to be a difference maker this year.

Petco fences were brought in, I heard... :D

So, tell me, man of much wisdom ;) Why is it Wil Myers, a man who lit up the PCL and the minor leagues to similar numbers as Gyorko and plays outfield (and projected to start the season in the minors), has a higher ADP than Gyorko, a starting 2nd baseman from day 1?

Just a little fyi on Gyorko. He is not 2B eligible in the NFBC. Currently, he only qualifies at 3B. If drafting him for 2B or MI make sure that you have an eligible player to cover that position until he gains 2B eligiblity this year  .

I think Gyorko is being drafted before Myers now in the most recent of drafts. Since March 1st, Myers adp is 232 and Gyorko's is 237 so essentially no difference. Too early for Myers and probably about right for Gyorko.

And for each overhyped, overrated MI like Beckham and Ackley, there are the hyped-up MIs who did live up to expectations and even exceeded them like Kipnis and Altuve. Works both ways. I think Gyorko's season will fall somewhere in the middle.
