How was Jose Fernandez available to be picked up on waivers in NY Main Mar 30 league 3?
He was not available in my league.

Much like Erik Bedard as the major league saves leader, some things are just temporary...

This should be reversed. He shouldn't have been available in any leagues. I am in this league and didn't even think of looking for him, since I knew the rule... or at least I thought I knew the rule.

I read that he is scheduled to make his major league debut next Sunday. If that is the case, he should not be added to the free agent pool next week. A player can only be added to the free agent pool by Sunday morning if he has played in at least one major league game. Does anyone disagree?

I silently wondered to myself this first week how this would be handled. Under no circumstance should someone that did bids earlier in the week have access to a wider pool than someone that did it today. I hope that didn't happen or this is going to be one hell of a mess.

This went out last Thursday. I'm not entirely sure it's relative here. It may help.
FIRST FAAB IS SUNDAY NIGHT
A reminder that the first free-agent pickups for ALL non-Draft Champion NFBC leagues will be Sunday night. Two notes:
1. Because we are running FAAB prior to the start of the season this year, the final 25 man rosters will not be completely entered yet. Therefore, the player pool for this first FAAB period is going to include players that normally wouldn’t be eligible. There’s no way for us to limit to the 25-man roster when that hasn’t been finalized for every team. And, the player pool locks at 7am on Sunday, so roster moves that get submitted on Sunday won’t be included.
2. Also, because player transactions will be entered constantly over the next few days and users have been able to submit bids for a few weeks now, there will be users that have bids on players that will no longer be eligible by the time bids run on Sunday.
Good luck everyone. The FAAB deadline is Sunday night at 8 pm ET. The player pool is closed every Sunday at 7 am ET.

Oh great. That is obviously how it should be. Thanks for posting that Joe. I missed that email.

This is correct. Since Fernandez was not in the majors to start the season, per NFBC rules he now will only be added to the free agent pool after he plays one game in the majors. If that first game is Sunday, he would then be added to the free agent pool next Monday. Bummer, but the rule was put in place as a definitive time stamp for when any new player can be added to the FAAB pool. Enjoy all.

This is being corrected in NY 3 now. At the end of entering every draft result, the facilitator must mark "Draft Complete" to activate that league. The facilitator in New York did not do that and we didn't catch that the league wasn't active until late Sunday morning. When we activated that league, the Marlins had already put Fernandez on the 25-man MLB roster and thus he was available in only one NFBC league. But per our rules, he obviously couldn't be added after 7 am on Sunday and it was our snafu that created this problem. He couldn't be picked up in NY 3 and now we have to back-track those bids. Sorry about this, but these are just some of the problems that can come from live drafts so close to the season. But all in all, the data entering process went fantastic in every city and we are very pleased with all of this.
Look for this league to be updated shortly. Thanks all and good luck. ENJOY OPENING DAY!!
