Question on Evan Gattis

I see that Evan Gattis is considered eligible only as an outfielder. I am co-commissioner in my local league and an owner is asking about his eligibility so I'm curious how the NFBC determines it. Gattis has not appeared in an MLB game prior to this year, so his position eligibility is based upon his prior minor league season. Last year he appeared in 37 games in the outfield and 27 games at catcher. If these were game totals posted in the major leagues, Gattis would have been multi-position eligible. I presume that since it's entirely minor league games, it is simply the one position the player appeared most often at? Just curious.

Thanks,

Kevin

I believe it's quite simply the position he played most in the minors. I do not believe any minor leaguers get dual eligibility.

Yup, that's it. He played OF more than anywhere else last season in the minors. Therefore, that be his position.

Gattis played 37 games in the outfield in the minors last year and 27 games at catcher. Per our rules, he qualifies only at OF since he played the most games in the minors at OF.
