Here is the rule as written:

"NFBC owners are allowed to change their starting lineups five minutes before the first game each Monday and that lineup remains intact for the rest of the week. However, owners are also allowed to remove a player (or players) who is officially on the DL from their starting lineup with one of their players from their reserve roster before each Friday's first game as long as the position eligibility works out. Players must officially be on the DL list according to STATS for this move (or moves) to take effect for the weekend games."

This is not the way understood the rule would be applied.

The way this is written, if a player in my active lineup goes on the DL on Saturday and I forget to remove him on Monday morning, I can still do it on the next Friday. I was under the belief that that ONLY players you could remove were those that went on the DL after the Monday cutoff.

What is the official intrepretation by the Greg and Tom?

Based of these answers, I may have additional questions that need clarification.

Viper,

I don't know if your example is the only thing you are concerned about with this issue, but if it is, keep in mind that this new OPTION/RULE was added to assist people, not penalize them.

So what if someone forgets or decides not to remove a DL'd player during the initial week (and they remain on the active lineup beyond the following Monday)...if they then realize it or decide a change is warranted the following week, then what's wrong with them having that option.

Based of these answers, I may have additional questions that need clarification. If you have a player who is officially on the DL in your starting lineup, you do get the chance to reserve him on Friday. This rule was put in place to help owners who have players placed on the DL Monday night or Tuesday (as seems to happen too often each year) and for those owners who may have forgotten to take a DL player out of their starting lineup. The program will be set to acknowledge any player who is OFFICIALLY on MLB's DL list as of 12:01 a.m. each Friday.

All I really want is clarification. I like the rule but without some clarification there will be problems.

I'm Ok with your logic but, as best I recollect, this rule was specifically added to provide relief to team who had players go on the DL sometime Monday evening or early in the week and they were "stuck" with an open hole - sometime because a team just failed to act and place a guy on the DL. It wasn't put in place to help an owner who was "lazy" and didn't see he had a DLed played in his active lineup. I'm good either way it goes but I would like to have any pososble issues nipped in the bud.

Greg - a followup question:

Assume I have Mark Prior in my starting lineup next Monday. He is now on the DL. Can I swap him out on Friday if I forgot to do it on Monday. So far I have seen nothing that prohibits me from doing it.

Your response seems to slightly conflict with the rule as written. You agree the rule was written to handle those Monday/Tuesday DLed players but that precise wording says just the ANY DLed player can be changed.

I'm Ok however this goes but I just want clarification.

Greg,

So to get cute, if a 2 start pitcher is pitching in Colorodo on Monday or Tuesday and I don't want him to start there, but I do want him to start on Sat or Sun in San diego-- I can leave a dl player or swap a Dl player into my lineup for Mon-Thursday and switch the dl player for the starter I want to pitch in San diego on sat or sun.

If you have a DLed SP, it does seem that you can do that. You just asked my final question.

I would prefer it to be called a quirk in the rules sort of like many tax laws you can use to your advantage given the correct set of circumstances.

I just wanted this all clarified before the s**t hit the fan in week 2 when something like you said happened.

Actually, this make enforcement easier because there is no enforcement needed.

The spirit of the rule change was to allow a full lineup when players were dl'd on Mon and Tues. Why not make the rule only available to players dl'd Sun,Mon, Tues, wed , and Thurs of the week in question and STOP the possible manipulation. Anyone can pick up a dl'd player for a buck FAAB and manipulate their Starting pitching lineup!!

Greg and Tom please comment.

In a slight defense of Greg's clarification, it may be next to impossible to do it that way without manually checking each Friday roster change. For single changes, they could revert lineups back but if multiple changes were made where on DL player droped was a Mon-Thur DL and the other was for a player like Prior, they may not be able to determine what to do.

The initial push that moved them this way was a desire by some to have daily moves. This was the compromise to resulted. It does keep people from getting zero stats due to a disabled player being active. For the rare times that a Coors type start is avoided, it seems reasonable.

All I wanted was clarification when I started this thread and I feel I have it. For many who don't read this board, I suspect this thread will be bumped a time or two.

Everyone should have an out for the year pitcher on their reserve so they can avoid starting a two start pitcher who has a bad first game matchup. Additionally, if you activate a pitcher on the DL on Monday you can wait until Friday before you decide who you want to put in that spot each week. Its called strategy.

[/QUOTE]I wasn't trying to say that Greg wanted daily moves. He never did. But there were a number of posters who did. Greg agreed to this once a week move. At least that is how I recall it.

Daily move leagues are horrible IMO. I've played one in basketball...and the worst team won merely by being super active with trading his sub level players in for others garbage players playing the next day...truely a bad way to play fantasy sports.

Boy I'm glad I read this thread. Damn newbie that I am, I wasn't even aware of the Friday DL rule! Anyway, while I find the loophole of putting in a DL pitcher on Monday to avoid a bad matchup early in the week with 2 start pitchers, then substituting on Friday rather clever, I'm sure most of you will agree that it isn't very sporting? Providing the stat program can accomadate, the simplest remedy would be to expand the rule to say that any pitcher activated on Monday who was on the DL at the time can't be removed until the following Monday! I think that would speak more to the intent and spirit of the rule.

good advice would be to always check the board. It may be the best advice you would get from a fellow competitior that isn't designed to totally screw you up.

I thought getting a 2 step is always better than not getting a 2 step, even if the first leg is in Coors.

I think the best way to fix any loophole in the rule is to go back to the way it was and should have stayed. No Friday changes period. I know Greg likes to baby you Whiners but personnally i dont care for this rule or the 40 man roster rule for the draft. these rules should never have been changed in the first place, hopefully we can go back to the way they were.

Plymoth, you are an ass i dont have time to stay on these goddamn boards and whine about every little thing, but greg seems to try his best to satisfy the ones who do. if the rule is a bad rule its a bad rule and in this case it is. so because i ont stay on the board 24-7 my opinion is worthless. fu
