With a little more than on week of the season in the books, it’s obvious Justin Upton is enjoying life in Atlanta as a member of the Braves. The hottest hitter in baseball, Upton is off to an MVP start.

The Braves aren’t the only ones enjoying Upton’s monstrous offensive contributions, however. In the NFBC Main Event, Upton’s offensive prowess has Ronny Mor sitting in a very advantageous position.

On top of the overall standings.

With Upton blasting bombs left and right Mor’s second weekend Main Event team has taken hold of first place in the Main Event. Entering action on Tuesday, Mor held a 276.5-point lead over Glenn Lowy’s second-place team in the overall competition.

“Upton’s hot start has been a big key so far,” Mor said.” I’ve also gotten good production from my late-round hitters Nate McClouth, Gerrardo Parrs and Chris Parmelee. Jeff Samardzija and my closers Sergio Romo and Addison Reed have been lights out so far too.”

Picking at the end of the first round, Mor and his partner Russ Prentice had a simple plan in mind for how they would attack the turn – draft the best players available. So when the time came for them to begin their draft, they started it with two of the game’s most talented players – Upton and Jose Reyes.

After that they began to implement a very specific strategy.

“We wanted to wait on outfielders and focus on the infield,” Mor said. “We got some good late value on Parra, McClouth and Vernon Wells. We wanted one good catcher and got Willin Rosario in Round 5. We wanted two solid relief pitchers and got Romo in the ninth round and then Reed in Round 11.”

A strong start is always a good thing in fantasy baseball but in Mor’s Las Vegas league it may be imperative. Not only is defending Main Event champ Dave Potts in the league but so are NFBC Hall of Famer Shawn Childs as well as standout NFBC player KJ Duke and RotoWire’s Jeff Erickson.

“I expect the competition to be stiff all year,” Mor said.

With that in mind, the key for success in Mor’s mind is simple:

“Stay healthy,” said the 34-year-old Mor, who is in his fourth season in the NFBC. “Jose Reyes is critical and must stay on the field. We also have Corey Hart and Brett Lawrie on the bench so depth is critical. We need continued health and production from our veterans, Vernon Wells, Nate McClouth and Travis Hafner especially.”
