Better to speculate with a Beachy or use the spot as a weekly pitcher than to hold onto Josh Johnson at this point? I'm so sick of the "he'll be pitching/now he's not" all year long game that is played.

I know if I cut him then he'll turn into Cy Young, but if I keep him he'll be a nightmare so.........
And.....when teams sign him do they not even look at the innings pitched before doing so?

Johnson was shut down in May of 2011 and did not pitch in the majors again until 2012. On a bad team, he ended up with respectable numbers for the year except for wins (8). He was pretty bad through May 4th (very hittable 150% hit percentage, 6.606ERA, 1.883 WHIP, and 2.17:1 K/BB ratio but OK 83% K-Rate). After that (May 9th through September 26th) much better (3.262 ERA, 1.162 WHIP, 87% K-Rate, 83% Hit rate, 2.62:1 K/BB). A little unpredictable (seven total earned runs in June, fourteen earned runs total in the next three July starts).

Since he came up for good mid-way through 2008 (14 starts), he has not been misused IMHO (only one year of 200+ IP). Except for 2011, fairly reliable (2009, 2010, 2012 had between 28 and 33 starts).

I am not sure if he can come back and replicate his 2012 numbers over the last five months of the season in the AL. Still, not sure what your FA pool looks like. Mine looks like the several villages are missing their idiots. Not sure you will find anyone better than Johnson.

Thanks for your thoughts! I can grab Beachy and wait, but nah there is not much else in the pool as far as current pitchers go. I figure once Beachy is back he will be better than Johnson (and on a winning team or very good team), and less injury prone. I realize he's coming back from an injury but I can't remember him being injured before this even though his career is short so far.
