I was at this game today, and what I saw was a slider that didn't slide, a curveball that didn't curve and a changeup that didn't change. Even though he was around the plate and actually threw a lot of strikes with his fastball, he wasn't fooling anybody with his other pitches. He also made a mental error by not backing up the catcher on a throw in from the outfield and the ball got by Molina, letting in another run.
The only thing I can think of is that on the very first pitch of the game there was a sharp comebacker which came up on him, and although it looked like he fielded it cleanly what I saw was it hitting his hip pretty hard. I was sitting with one of the Rays team doctors, who saw the same thing, but he didn't seem overly alarmed. I'll be interested to see if it's mentioned in the articles tomorrow.
