Go have fun over here: http://www.hwforums.com/2113/ and come back when you're ready to tell me what F Hernandez's K/9 will be by September's end. Thanks.

Do not listen to him he stopped believing after thinking he heard a heavenly voice telling him to use the 9th overall pick on Sheets in 05, we all see how it panned out.

The voice I am hearing now is saying 307. Any idea what it means?

Long season young Brian long season, key difference is one of us knows he has holes to fill one of us does not. One of us has a track record of picking up key free agents, one does not.

My 2nd guess would be what is your combined team batting average over the last 2 seasons.

Jason Johnson $5 I actually think most people would think both lists are pretty good. 8 guys who could help. And like I have told you before, if I had the year you had last year I would be excited and overanalyze 2 and a half weeks also.
Probably just a difference of opinion here, outside of trash talk for a minute, but I'm only basing the trades on return so far. Why? Because I may never play W. Rodriguez again and dump him for someone else who will help. FAAB pickups tend to be fungible by nature and I simply look for what the returns are, rather than their longterm value. If they stick, they stick, and that's a bonus. The way I see it Micelli is the most valuable player on the list, though his lt value sucks, but you had to pay an awful lot to get him so you certainly didn't squeeze the same kind of value out of him as I did out of $5 Johnson.
Alright since we are being serious- sure all of your pick ups are good for the exact reason you stated. They become great if one can stick and help you in to the summer.

I love Adrian Gonzalez at 55, Markakis was about as cheap as he went calulated risk, Micelli is the interesting one. Most new closers go for around 300- hoping for 20 saves. Quick math says 15 bucks a save. So like yours I am about even- if he gets me 15 then it is a great pickup. I do realize Miceli is not exactly ERA friendly but which ones of these 300 dollar closer pickups really are?
I am just assuming that Micelli already lost the job--but I've been wrong before. I think the best case scenario has him in a committee situation before he pitches himself out of it altogether--as you mentioned, he's not very good. Still, you ae correct in saying that the little you got out of him is already approaching what you paid when you compare it to what others pay, but the quantitative value (rather than monetary) of a win and save in the nfbc is very similar. A win is actually worth quite a bit more when you account for the fact that you get less wins from each SP than you get saves from each closer (on average). Add the two wins to the other stats Johnson has contributed and the real vaue given by both Johnson and Micelli thus far is close, if not in Johnson's favor--he just cost $71 less.
Maybe you should stay on the English side of the hall Brian- you missed one simple point supply and demand pressures on the save category vs the wins with regard to waivers. I do learn a few new words from your posts though that somehow 19 years of "schooling" failed me.

A little silly to keep replying to the 2000 line dialogue since we are the only ones on this board aside from God Loves You, checking in to see if he's gotten any prayers. :D

You can't just let me allude to things. I look at it quantitatively because supply and demand is dictated by the group but affects the individual. You can be selling horsefeed at the cheapest price ever but I ain't buying any because I can't use horsefeed and can't really resell it. I don't need saves, so they aren't worth anything to me.

I might add that Johnson is on pace for 22 wins and Micelli 32 saves. Now we know that's not going to happen but in terms of supply and demand to the group what would people pay more for, 22 wins or 32 saves? So far Johnson has more value by that standard too.
