Baseball Wrap-up

The season is too long • Do any baseball fans disagree? I'd love to see a 140 game schedule, like it was in 1919. :D Here's the set-up Bud: 16 gms vs each divisional opponents, 6 gms vs each league opponent, 3 gms vs 4 interleague opponents and 4 gms vs the best interleague geographic opponent. The season would be over this weekend, playoffs next week, WS in early October. Perfect.

Football pushed aside • For the first time in weeks I'm all baseball today. Trying to hold on for a main event title, hold on to second in two other leagues, sneak into the money in the Mia draft and win an overall title in the "other" league. Every hit or pitch could be the difference maker.

Kamikaze DC • In Vegas a couple weeks ago Scott Keikoan suggested a new and improved DC format ... I really liked the idea. Football DC leagues auto-generate your best lineup, but in baseball we have to set lineups because the rotisserie game does not lend itself to what a "best lineup" is. Merging these two ideas would allow you to adjust your lineup at anytime until 24 hours AFTER the week is over. In this way, we can see how our players did for the week and submit the best lineup for our category needs. I told Scott this format should be named Kamikaze, after his team name and for the fact that it gives you the opportunity to **** yourself. I would play in more of these leagues than standard DCs because of the lesser time commitment. And wouldn't it be satisfying to bench RA or CC after a blow-up and not have those stats count! I'd like to see this become the standard DC format. It would be more true to the title Draft Champion.

Thanks • Dough I hope you enjoyed the season, I enjoyed reading your commentary all season. The same goes for Outlaw and his insight. And kudos to GlennX and Edwards Kings for keeping the blogs going for another season, and of course thanks to Greg and Tom for 10 great seasons ... I hope you guys aren't wearing down like some of us are! 8-)

Good luck all in finishing off baseball 2013 ...

Thanks KJ, I enjoy writing it.

As far as the DC's, I just wish there was a way the computer could figure out the optimal scoring lineup each week, similar to football. I know I would do several of these each season if there were no setting lineup commitment required. In fact, I think this format would explode even more than it already has.

KJ, good luck in all your leagues here and the Overall across the street and I'll see you in Vegas come March.

It would have to be a points format like the daily contests use.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The One thing i have proposed is to add positions say 5 pitchers, 3 of 1ci 1mi 1dh and maybe 1c or maybe a flex and have a draft of 35 or 36 rds and all stats from all players count with no in season changes.

A Seinfeld fan could take that quote to mean you're saying points formats are gay.

Personally I avoid the points format in baseball. To each their own.

Or - it can be interpreted that I am borrowing a well known line and using a little poetic's license to suggest using a points format for the D&H wouldn't be a horrible idea - it certainly isn't detracting from the proliferation of the daily contests.
