We ran a couple of NFBC Draft Champions League drafts at last weekend's Arizona Fall League Symposium. We did 23 rounds live in Phoenix and will finish up the last 27 rounds online. Thanks to BaseballHQ.com who sponsored the drafts and who is giving a free entry to next year's AFL Symposium to the winner of each draft.

For a late October draft, I thought this group was pretty well prepared. These leagues weren't filled with a lot of our high-stakes players, but it was a good mix of folks who knew what they were doing. 25. Giancarlo Stanton - bad pick until muscles becomes a category

37. Matt Carpenter - no speed, no power, the new Placido Polanco, solid pick 10-15 rounds later

88. Travis d'Arnaud - 202 with 1 HR last season, now 6th rd pick

What is not to like KJ?

I don't have a problem with taking TDA. But not in the 6th round or even the 10th round

What is not to like KJ?

D'Arnaud is a top catching prospect. Last year was kind of a lost year for him given his injury. This year, he should be the Mets starter from Day 1. I expect him to be at least an average hitting catcher in 2014. While I am not expecting great things in what really will be his rookie year, I'm kind of hoping he winds up as a top 10-15 catcher for 2014. As Dan knows, I drafted d'Arnaud as my second catcher in the first 50-rounder for 2014. Of course, I waited until Round 19 (not Round 6) to snatch him up.

Just a heads up to the 30 owners who participated in our Arizona Fall League drafts: We have both leagues created now and all owners signed up. I had to create some accounts for new owners and we'll need to get your contact info updated there. I'll help with that.

Rather than start these leagues during the holidays, give us a few days to load the rosters and then you'll have time to look over the free agent lists. Let's start these drafts the first week of January, so plan accordingly. That way we'll get everyone up to speed and get through the holidays.
