2014 Early Season Draft Results

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Nov 25, 2013 10:37 am

The draft season has begun as multiple NFBC Draft Champions Leagues are already underway. Over the next four months, expect 120+ DC leagues to be held online as owners battle for league prizes and the $20,000 grand prize. Good luck all.

As we get finished results from these leagues and other online leagues, we'll post the first six rounds here to whet your appetites. We don't want to go any deeper than six rounds to protect the sleeper picks of those owners in these leagues, but we'll give you just enough information to get you excited for Draft Day. Enjoy the early season results and feel free to talk about any of the picks in this thread. Thanks all.

Have any DC leagues used a Placeholder pick (unlisted player) in the first six rounds?

Interesting seeing Billy Hamilton being drafted in or even before the sixth round in all four drafts shown. I suspected he'd go early but not that early. Will he get on base to steal enough to return value? High risk/reward pick. Will be fun to watch.

3 drafts above. 270 players - 64 SP's and 20 MR's taken. Avg 21 SP's and 7 RPs per draft. I would say that most drafters are on to the 3 yr decilne in hitting and top offensesive players are in higher demand so far. Could Stolen bases be on the rise as more teams try to generate more runs, with the decline in power.

I usually don't make to many comments about player values and ADP type rankings, preferring to keep those thoughts to myself. There is a lot to like here. The one guy that I will comment on is Miguel Cabrera. I would find it a gift to get him at the number 2 spot. With looming multi position eligibility he is the easy choice for me. Even without it he's my number 1 pick.

Of course I may be a bit prejudiced. ;)

It maybe has a lot to do with the NFBC default rankings having Hamilton top-100.

Not sure. I guess I look at him more skeptically than most. I'm just not sure he will contribute in more than one category. He will provide no help whatsoever in HR and RBI. Not sure about BA - can you count on him to hit more than .250? If he hits enough to hit lead off, he should contribute Runs. If, however, he struggles at the plate, he likely will hit eighth (assuming he even stays in the starting lineup all year) and may not steal as often as his owners would want.

On the other hand, if he hits lead off and gets on base, he could steal 75+ bases and practically ensure all or most SB points almost on his own. Getting rid of Dusty Baker can only help in terms of playing time and getting a green light to run. His upside is real and he could provide big value. I just think he is very high risk/reward because his floor probably is lower than anyone getting drafted that high.

I think he will be fun to watch. Very tough to project in my opinion.

Its definitely the earliest I have seen multiple closers go in the first 6 rounds. I get Kimbrel and maybe even Chapman... the others, I don't know... Seems way too early.

Before signing with the Yankees, C Brian McCann went 102nd and 131st overall in NFBC drafts. Since his signing he's gone 70th and 91st.

The one guy that I will comment on is Miguel Cabrera. I would find it a gift to get him at the number 2 spot. With looming multi position eligibility he is the easy choice for me. Even without it he's my number 1 pick.

I agree with you Joe. I was very happy to get Cabrera at #2 in my draft :o

I am surprised at how high a lot of unproven youngsters are going, some who do not have a for-sure regular job yet.
