$150 DC quick draft
Is anyone interested in doing this on this Saturday night(Dec.14)? Start time would be by consensus.(7pm?) We can vote on 1 or a 2 min time limit. I would keep track of Placeholders during draft if necessary.

Re: $150 DC quick draft
It's a good thought, but a cluster with place holders. If somebody is late typing a place holder choice and the next drafter wants one too, it could be a huge headache....ikenbaseball wrote:Is anyone interested in doing this on this Saturday night(Dec.14)? Re: $150 DC quick draft
How about a long clock but everyone agrees to 2 min picks unless it's a PH in which case chat could vote on whether to take a smoke/piss break or carry on after the PH us announced?
I'd unregister from DC 11 to take part in this if it goes ahead.

That would make for a very long draft....Deadheadz wrote:How about a long clock but everyone agrees to 2 min picks unless it's a PH in which case chat could vote on whether to take a smoke/piss break or carry on after the PH us announced?

Re: $150 DC quick draft
I don't want the issue of placeholders to stop us from doing this. I have a comprehensive list of placeholders from my $400 DC. If we have 1 min limit this will give me enough time match the player with owner and then after the draft i'll submit it to Greg/Tom. No worries.
This will be a interesting draft because your really have to be prepared and be able to think quick. We just have to decided on the start time.

We have one minute to make a choice. If team 13 wants Archie Bradley and selects placeholder, team 14 is left hanging because he wanted Bradley too. If team 13 hesitates in printing 'Bradley' in the chat room, team 14 is on tilt and has few seconds to select. It could happen several times. Especially deeper in drafts when consecutive 'placeholders' are taken.

Re: $150 DC quick draft
Unlikely to happen, but a good point. In that case we would hit the help button, ask the administrator to stop the draft and we get it sorted out.
Re: $150 DC quick draft
the issue is resolved once they are added to the database. COME ON STATS TECHIES. i aint that hard nor time consuming to add 40 - 50 minorleaguers to a database. no reason at all it can't be done today
Re: $150 DC quick draft
My point was to have a longer clock so no one times out and gets an auto-pick but we'd all be on an honor system of 60 seconds per pick, especially for the non placeholder picks.
You should all have players loaded into your queue already.
If the situation arises where a placeholder is used and the next guy got scooped, he should have another player ready but the longer clock would allow the time to type the name of the pick.
For that matter, nothing prevents you from having the PH atop your queue and typing the name of the PH into chat while you're On The Clock just before you click on Draft Player.
Where this whole draft would fail is in the case one manager doesn't show up for the draft. A longer clock would mean everyone waits because the draft room doesn't go into instant Auto picks for absent owners.

Don't get me wrong. I love the passion and exuberance.
I just see the placeholders problem being too big of a hurdle. At worst, it'll make for chaos and long waits. At best, it'll make a 'quick draft' longer than anybody wants to sit in front of a computer.

Re: $150 DC quick draft
Why would there be long waits if you have 15 guys in chat and focused on drafting?
You think at some point an owner will have just one player in his queue (a placeholder pick) and he would get thrown into a tizzy if the guy picking ahead of him took that player?

Re: $150 DC quick draft
Each drafter is allotted one minute. Placeholders take away seconds from each drafter. Worse, it is up to the previous drafter to decide how many of those seconds are given or taken away. Placeholders make the draft 'uneven'.Deadheadz wrote:Why would there be long waits if you have 15 guys in chat and focused on drafting?

I'll just be happy when this whole 'placeholders' mess is taken care of..
In short, it shouldn't be up to us to work around a flaw, the flaw should be fixed.
Like said, good luck and love the passion.

Re: $150 DC quick draft
I can see if all picks took the full 60 seconds you'd have a dreadfully long 15 hour draft.
It would probably be worse than I'm expecting but not as bad as you fear.
Hopefully the players will be added in time.

Re: $150 DC quick draft
It wouldn't be 15 hours. I think the first part of the draft would go swell. The second half, when folks are getting a little tired and 'placeholders' become the norm could serve to bog it down or worse.Deadheadz wrote:I can see if all picks took the full 60 seconds you'd have a dreadfully long 15 hour draft.

I know it sounds like I'm trying to rain on a parade here, but I'm pragmatic as well.
I just don't want to see a good draft ruined.
I'll stay on the sidelines for the rest of the thread.

Re: $150 DC quick draft
I don't envision the placeholder issue being a problem. In other "quick drafts", if there is a issue the administrator stops the draft and resolves the issue and we move on with the draft. It could give other owners more time thus making it uneven but that happens in all the quick drafts. Not a big deal in my eyes. Certainly it shouldnt stop us from a having a draft. I want to give it a try.
$150 DC Saturday Dec. 14 @ 7pm 1 minute picks
If your interested let me know. I want to get this off the ground ASAP so we can have a draft order by Thursday/Friday.
Good Luck

Re: $150 DC quick draft
We did Fast 50 Drafts last year and they lasted around 4 hours. Nothing new here. I believe Greg/Tom said they were going to offer some Fast 50 drafts again this year.

Outlaw, does that mean that your in for Saturday night? We need to get this off the ground.
Thanks

Re: $150 DC quick draft
DC 11 is filling up soon. I'm going to do one or the other so we'd need to get a long list of committed managers for the quick draft before I switch out of the one I'm already registered for now.
Build it and they will come.

Re: $150 DC quick draft
Thanks for the invite, but i'll hold off... I made the mistake last year (IMO) of drafting too early and got stuck with players at the back end of these 50 rounders that were useless. I'll wait until later when things are clearer.ikenbaseball wrote:Outlaw, does that mean that your in for Saturday night? We need to get this off the ground.

Re: $150 DC quick draft
How about a draft with placeholders, but you don't fill in the placeholder spot until after the draft. Whoever selects the first placeholder, is the first to select a player, and so on...or you could just wait until the placeholder issue is resolved?

Re: $150 DC quick draft
We can do Friday or Saturday, whatever you folks want. Once we get 15 like-minded drafters, we can set it up for this weekend or next weekend. These are easy to set up, so someone take the ball and get it rolling!! Thanks all.ikenbaseball wrote:The placeholder issues have been resolved.
