Affordable Auctions

For years, a lot of NFBC drafters wanted to experience an auction. Entering an auction at a live event however, would be an expensive way to most likely have our ass handed to us.
We think we may have come up with a way to make an auction affordable. Even better, the auction will be combined with a snake draft and will be played under the NFBC umbrella.
Here's how it'll work...

Todd Zola is finding an auction site amenable for us to draft. We would draft a legal team of 23 players. Then, those players would be transported to the NFBC site. Once there, we resume the draft for 27 more rounds.
This would make it a no FAAB draft and team. It would also be a private league and not eligible for Overall purposes. No KDS will be necessary. The auction site would pick the draft order. In this case, the 15th pick may be more valuable than pick one, since drafter 15 will pick first when the snake draft begins.

This is a way to initiate folks to auctions in a less expensive, more fun format. Todd says these auctions could last six hours. Make sure you have enough time.
We'll take interested names on this thread for now. Maybe if enough interest is gained, it'll be available on the registration page later.
This is open to rookie and veteran auction types alike.
The cost will be $125 and $250.
We'll fill up as many leagues as needed between February 7-28. Leaving time for the slow drafts afterwards.

Yeah count me in for draft # 1 of the $125 auction. Interesting concept.
Thanks

I'm just curious why an online auction of 23 man rosters would last up to 6 hours?

I've done 30 man roster 12 team auctions on ESPN that took just under 3 hours, as one example.

Also, does having the leagues non-overall prize eligible make having the auction at another site any more legal? When I asked about having the auction at another site and transfering the rosters to a private league last fall, Greg said that would be illegal.

Unless I misunderstood.

Cheers!

We have filled the draft for February 7 and will begin taking names for Feb 14, which may be tough because of Valentines Day.

Dan, would it be possible to do one of these with a seven man bench and FAAB?

Odds are heavy that you misunderstood....

This will not be part of the Overall because it is a different animal. It wouldn't be fair to include a new concept with the Overall to either party.
It is meant to be a learning experience for some and a way to hone auction skills for others.
I cannot answer your time frame question since I have never done an auction. .

Sure, but since we're just trying out this idea, lets keep it as simple as possible.
I am hoping that next year we can include 30 rounders with faab and other options.

Andy Saxton would like to be the first backup Feb 7 if someone has to drop for the $125 league. I know I can make that date. i am unsure about feb 14 or 15 at this time though.

I said UP TO 6 hours. I didn't say it would take 6 hours. Having run on-line leagues in the last, including high stakes auctions, it is best for everyone to carve out ample time to account for all possible issues. If I say they usually take 4 hours, then someone plans on spending 4 hours and gets anywhere from frustrated to incredibly pissed we're taking longer. I'd rather finish in 4 and half hours when six was planned for than five hours when four was planned for.

There's going to be some new to auctions, let alone on-line auctions. Everyone will have to learn the draft room and how to bid. There will be times where someone drops off and we need to roll back the bid and start it again.

I'm guessing the average auction will be 4 1/2 hours. Recommending planning nothing for six hours covers surprises until we get a better handle on what to expect.

Same as a satelite league....$1,000, 375, 125...Double that for the $250 league

That's not legal.
This was the post to which I was referring...

I don't know the context or timing of those posts, so cannot answer.
Also, this is a combined auction/draft making it a different animal. More than half the draft would be with the NFBC.

The only context was me asking if NFBC would be having online auctions to which the reply was "NFBC has no auction software" after which I posted what was quoted above.

The forum doesn't allow three+ levels of quotes so I had to remove the first one.

So my question is have you had this idea approved by STATS already or are you setting us up for possible disappointment by taking signups?

I love the idea and it's kindof what I had in mind when I asked a few months ago.

I have Greg's blessing on this.
He has been nothing but helpful. As has Todd and others. It's been a great group effort.

Cool. I'll sign up when I'm sure of a date that works for me.
Hopefully high demand could spur STATS into seeing a need for proprietary auction software in the foreseeable future.

Good job!

Starting with mixed but we'll have a signup for only leagues (which would be run with FAAB in the standard manner.)

I would love to sign up for one of these leagues, but Fri/Sat night makes it a no-go for me. I know I'm probably in the minority of people that would want a mid-week, T/W/Th, draft; but if you get one going I would be interested.

Good job getting this started Dan.

Alright. Let us try Wednesday Feb 19th for $125.

Show me as the first sign-up. That should get all the sharks circling :D
