NFBC Message Boards

Whenever we get a new player in one of our NFBC live events, I try to welcome them with a nice email and inevitably I always ask how they heard about the NFBC. I love to track our promotions, plus I often wonder where new people come from and how they first learned about the NFBC.

Most times I get responses like they saw us in a magazine ad or story, or heard us on SiriusXM or had a friend refer them to the NFBC. But last week when I asked Krzysztof Krajanowski how he heard about the NFBC, I got a funny response. Many of you know Krys from his participation in the NFBC Draft Champions Leagues, but last week he also signed up for two Main Events Online. We owe this participation to an NFBC owner who was gambling at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas one summer day. Here's his story:

"A while back, I was sitting at the Hard Rock Casino playing Hold'em. Suddenly the guy sitting next to me jumps out of his seat and starts yelling profanities at the baseball game that's on TV. After he sits down, I ask him why he's so upset.

He says that the pitcher who just gave up a grand slam probably just cost him $10,000. Then he proceeded to tell me about the NFBC and about his team. I was intrigued and here I am playing in the main event.

I wonder if that was The Mouth sitting next to me at the poker table?"

I don't know who it was, but I thank him.

So how did you first hear about the NFBC? Let's see some other stories on how you first got introduced to high-stakes fantasy baseball. Thanks all.

I was getting bored with my local league and wanted something a little bigger and more organized. I saw the NFBC in a Fantasy Baseball Magazine and got a Main Event team. As soon as I signed up, I got a phone call from Greg welcoming me to the NFBC as a fellow CheeseHead! That was 2009 and I've never looked back!

I played in the first ever WCOFB and some guy with a 70's porn stache drinking a Miller Genuine Draft (this was a LLLOOONNNGGG time ago) told me to keep it under wraps but this time next year I'd be playing in his contest.

They were using my rules, by the way, after our partnership fell through. I knew we were going ALL IN the next year by ourselves.

My college best friend had been making a Vegas First Round of March Madness trip for a few years and always tried to get me to go. But having gotten married in 2000, saving for a house, and started a family in 2002, I could never justify the expense. Then he called in early 2004.

Stevie- "Hey Noles, there is a Fantasy Baseball Contest in Vegas the first weekend of March Madness, $100,000 to the winner." (At this point our Holy Cross League that we started in 1994, I typically was winning it and Stevie was historically finishing last.) "Noles, if you think you can win it, I'll fund it, and we'll split the profits 50/50!"

Noles- "OK, I think I can win it."

Stevie- "Great, get your plane ticket to Vegas and the rest is on me. Study up, Draft is in a couple of months, see you in Vegas."

And just like that, Welcome to Stevieland was formed. Haven't missed a March Vegas trip since, and the NFBC has become the highlight of that trip for me.

Was in the Dallas airport waiting for my next flight and had time to kill. Picked up a fantasy baseball magazine with a picture of Alphonso Soriano on it. This was after the 2006 season where he hit 46 HR and had 41 SB. Read the articles about the NFBC and have been hooked ever since.

What is this NFBC thing of which you speak?

One thing that has really made me happy over the last two years is the influx of new players through our Draft Champions Leagues. I think this has become THE place to draft early in the season and to learn the player pool. In the past it was the mock draft sites, but now there's more meaning in the ADPs when there's some skin in the game and more and more new players are coming to the NFBC thanks to the Draft Champions format.

In fact, Tom and I looked up our total number of DCs at this time last year and we are ahead of last year on Jan. 13th by 14 leagues. We've filled 18 DC leagues in the last 18 days AND THIS IS STILL FOOTBALL SEASON!! It's very exciting.

Now, where did all of you new DC players hear about us? Inquiring minds want to know.

This is my third year with the NFBC, so I guess I'm still somewhat of a newbie. I transitioned to the NFBC in what probably is a common pathway - played in a local league, branched out to (comparatively) low-priced pay leagues on some more-widely-known-but-inferior sites, and then hit the "big time" with the NFBC. I vaguely remember coming across a magazine ad that either was from the NFBC or referenced the NFBC. I confess that I had never heard of the NFBC before. I found the website, liked what I saw, joined a DC league, loved the experience, stumbled onto the message board, and, as they say, the rest is history.

The DC leagues are a great introduction to newcomers. It only was a few years ago when I nervously took my winnings my local league and joined my first DC league. At the time, I wondered if I was crazy joining a league with a $150 price tag, which far exceeded my previous outlays for a single league. Fast forward a few years and I'm now doing lots of DC leagues, have done several OC leagues, and recently mailed in a check for my first Main Event team. Along the way, I've come across a lot of great folks and I'm looking forward to meeting many of them in NYC this March. I'm also already plotting to try to get to Las Vegas in March 2015. Yeah, you can say I'm hooked.

A friend of mine told me about this high stakes contest that he consistently dominates. He made it sound so easy and profitable that I had to give it a try. His name was Mike Massotto.

I first heard about the NFBC on either Sirius-XM Fantasy Sports Radio or one of the podcasts I listen to. It sounded interesting so I checked out the website and did a Satellite League last year. I plan on doing a DC league this year. I am in a long-time, 16-team roto keeper league and a 12-team H2H league with some guys from work and other friends. I wanted another roto league last year and now am hooked. I would guess one or both of my leagues will go away over the next 5 years, so I see myself getting more involved in NFBC. Next year I would love to get to one of the Main Event sights.

He didn't lie to you, it's been easy and profitable to you from day one!

It was the first year. I saw an add in some fantasy baseball mag that's no longer around. They gave a web site so I checked it out. Wow I could win $100,000 plus a Pete Rose baseball! I didn't win the money but the baseball is still sitting above my computer. It's about time to offer a Barry Bonds baseball.
