We continue to analyze the numbers and the ADPs in our weekly column that can be found on BaseballHQ.com and this week we look at the lack of stolen bases in 2013. We try to explain why guys like Billy Hamilton could be important in 2014 as we recruit new players to the NFBC. Enjoy the free column:

Thoughts on the fewer stolen bases last year? Will the trend continue this year?

Good article Greg. Another thing to consider here is that 6 of the top 20 stolen base leaders from last year, including #2 and #3 overall, are not guaranteed full time at bats in 2014 (E Young, R Davis, J Dyson, N MClouth, E Bonafacio, and C Gentry). This waters down the category even more.

If anyone thinks Hamilton gets 100sb, he should be a first round pick. His current adp is SOLID GOLD

For those with Baseball HQ access, I wrote a 3-part research series looking at the drop in steals. I bet the number increases (even w/o Hamilton) and splits the difference from last season and the previous two.

So, you are Cincinnati, and you get rid of Stubbs because he cannot steal first. Check.

Get Shin-Soo Choo because he doesn't have to try to steal first. Check.

Let Shin-Soo Choo leave as a free agent because he is too expensive. Check.

Give Billy Hamilton CF. Have they changed the rules so you CAN steal first?
