Sunday Night DC $150 Leagues: Viewable By Industry

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Feb 11, 2014 4:10 pm

One thing we have learned about these NFBC Draft Champions Leagues is that people LOVE TO DRAFT and people LOVE TO SEE DRAFT RESULTS!! :D

There's just no doubt about that. These DCs are filling up every day because people want to draft, they want to play for money and they want to learn the player pool. It gets a bit addicting.

Well, now we want to spread the love around, if folks are up for it. Last week during our Draft Champions Express League, one of our astute owners created a Google Docs file and posted the picks on BaseballHQ.com round by round. The word quickly spread that draft results were being made available in real-time (well, kind of) and soon there were hundreds of folks talking about the draft. It showed us how easily it would be to create a buzz with a live draft.

So here's the thought, each Sunday night going forward I'd like to create a Sunday Night DC Express League where all of the picks would be posted on industry sites. We can list you on the Google Doc as Team 1, Team 2, etc., or for folks who want others to follow their picks we can list your team name or real name. This could be a chance for some owners like Glenn Lowy who writes for BaseballHQ.com to have followers see his draft strategy. Or maybe it turns Gekko into a Draft Champions star, a person who every Sunday Night gets a bigger industry following. It's similar to poker where folks wanted to watch the great players play anytime they could see them, right?

So I've created a Sunday Night DC Express League for Feb. 16th, 6 pm ET. I don't know if we can fill it this late in the week, but if we do please realize that the results will be posted on one more industry Message Boards and we'll allow folks to comment on the picks. We think it could create a pretty cool buzz in the industry. You can tell me how you want your team name on the Google Doc and we'll either promote your name or hide it with a Team designation. Fair enough?

I think this could really become a big hit and football has even great possibilities. Anyway, let's give this a try and if we fill it this Sunday Night we'll keep it going each week. It could be good for you, good for the NFBC, good for the industry. And yes, everyone is in line for the $20,000 grand prize, the same league prizes and maybe a little bonus from the NFBC or the web sites that carry our draft results. I'll work on that next.

Okay, if anyone is game just sign up online or let me know here. Thanks all and any feedback on this idea is welcome. Is it a good idea that could create a unique following in the industry? Let us know what you think. Thanks.

In. Wonder if Dobies or Greenie will be willing to do battle against me here, as well as the auction!

Hey Greg are you planning on doing that with the march 16th express draft or would you create a new one on the same night? If not i would be interested in removing myself from that draft and joining this new draft on sunday.

Yeah, we'll see how this plays out, but any of those Sunday March DC Express Leagues could be up for this if this idea takes hold. Again, we won't identify any owner who doesn't want to be identified and nobody will know the draft order of these leagues from the NFBC. Owners can be listed as Team 1, Team 2, etc., or their name. Could be fun. Thanks.

As someone who "craves attention" this event is perfect for me. But I'll go in ONLY if BK METS agrees to participate as well.

Deadhead, this could be your only chance to avenge your near certain death (by my sword) in the auction we just did.

PS - I will leave Ortiz for you to select in the 3rd round

I thought you decided you'd only draft in leagues with people you like...
so I might get left out.

Wow, this is shaping up as a celebrity draft already. Bill Strickler, our defending NFBC 12 overall champion, is in the house for Sunday night. I like it. Let's keep it going. Thanks all.

This idea seems to be going over pretty well. NOW ONLY 10 SPOTS LEFT!!

Some folks are looking forward to the feedback on their picks and with others' picks. I agree. This should be fun.

I need to swim with the sharks, it wouldn't be a fantasy season without being schooled by Gekko. I'm in.

Those who follow poker on TV will know the name Phil Helmuth. I wouldn't say he's well liked but he is a character and he has also had a lot of success. Having one guy like him at the table helps drive interest.

Heroes, villains...it's much like pro wrestling was in the 80s.

I'm tempted to sign up even if BK METS isn't on the list. Maybe we can get KJ Duke, too?

I really appreciate the thought Greg, but honestly the last thing I need is for the BHQ readers to see me get schooled by the sharks already signed up for this league. I'm nowhere near ready to go 50 rounds deep at 30 seconds per pick. Maybe in a few more weeks I'll give it a try. For now, I'll just sit on the sidelines as one of the interested viewers.

Its going to be hard for me to pull off a 5 hour auction on Saturday and another draft on Sunday. I think I will pass on this one.
