Slow Draft League, Slow Owner

Post by legoyoego » Sun Feb 16, 2014 6:19 pm

We just started a slow draft yesterday at 1:00 and havent yet made it out of the 4th round. One owner seems to be using the full 8 hours for each pick not for research but for fun - made one pick with 1 second left. Often this weekend we have had up to 13 owners online at once and have been stuck due to this owner. Has anyone dealt with this before?

Nope. I've never heard about a slow problem owner in a slow draft.

there are plenty of bullies in these drafts,,,,all just out to get their pick when they are there....its the bullies that ruin the drafts......

but after 15 rounds or so no one pays attention....just the bullies.....and they will torment whom ever is unlucky enough to be in the next slot to them....

Really? "Bullies" in an internet slow draft? How is that even possible? Bully = "a person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker". So on the clock = strength and power to intimidate the rest of the players?

I never stop learning!

One thing that needs to be stressed is 98-99% of our DC leagues go smoothly and without incident. The average time for these drafts to be completed is around 21/2 weeks so all of them to date have moved at a reasonable pace. So with over 100 leagues and counting people are drafting at a good pace and (hopefully) having a good time. However, if a league does get to be bogged down as you move along please contact Greg or myself and we can look into it.

...it is the perception to the bully .. that his victim is weak...it is this weakness that the bully uses to vent his anger at the victim... the victim is just that ,, and nothing the victim can do can ever change the perceived weakness by the bully,....

in the DC drafts the victim has very little recourse but not to play... but others stand up to expose these bullies...once there is a pattern... in these drafts.. its very short... 1)time ,.. time to pick. easy for the bully to track his victim... 2) very easy to hide..no names required....3)... email addresses are posted...and 4) the bully faces no possibility of facing responsibility for his actions.. the victim has time and the hope the attacks will end when the draft is over,,, which it will... the bully has other victims in the NFBC arena...

the violence produced by the bully is not unlike a domestic violence situation or a pedophile.... Ohh. I harmed no one is the usual saying and of course the victim is always wrong....but thanks to current technology,,,and improvements in law enforcement changes are occurring...maybe not in my draft,, which is immaterial in a sense... but every where...

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, and I'm not in any slow drafts this year, but did using all 8 hours of their slow draft clock just get compared to domestic violence and pedophilia???? Wow....talk about taking something overboard.

Or was it someone yelling at the owner taking the 8 hours that was compared to domestic violence and pedophilia? I couldn't tell.

Hope not.

We havent really heard from him. But the fact he made his last pick with :01 left on the clock kind of gave us the impression he may just be using the impressive strategy of wasting time.

It's a fine balance and the tone is set early in the draft.

Some come across pushy and can piss people off early and they then use this kind of delay tactic.

I find doing a slow draft invaluable and incredibly frustrating in equal measure.

Also starring - Man with watch - Lead bully and angry chat room guy (Actual person varies each episode)
And starring - Man who takes 8 hours for every pick - AKA The "draft-o-phile"
Special guest star - Deadheadz - (just because we just cant seem to get rid of him :D )

Every day, 1:00 ET. :D :D

Not in that league so I'm not sure the pick didn't just time out and the lag between the pick and the Flash countdown clock made you think he made the pick with just 1 sec remaining. Sounds like you're pre-disposed to not give the person the benefit of the doubt.

we've tried to get interest in joining DC drafts with 4-hour clock but almost zero takers. Critics complained "we have to sleep sometime." Yet a group of NFBC vets ran through a DC in 4 days saying it was a blast.

It helps a lot to get a friendly text message when you're on the clock but too many people refuse to share their cell number. In my current DC slow draft we're at 2.5 rounds per day and virtually no chat room discussion or banter at all. My last slow draft for 2014 I'm pretty sure.

You must've been off line for the banter about k.johnson, but yes, ours has been extremely long in the middle and not much personality otherwise.

Agreed on our draft. I have been in 2 pretty slow ones, but at least in this one, I know our 2 picks will either be early in the morning or late at night, so there is some stability of a daily schedule.

I don't know for sure, but would say after being a part of Mia's draft last year and hearing about the 4 day draft this year, that the higher the chat to picks ratio is, the faster the draft will be. Having 15 interested people in talking about the picks, baseball in general or other stuff is key to having a great DC experience.

The fact is that everyone doesn't want that. Some people are just using the DC as practice, make their pick when they're up and leave the room. With a few exceptions, it's the luck of the draw as to the draft experience we get when signing up for a DC.
