Biggest movers

Every year, in baseball and football, for that matter, there are players who start off the DC draft season at a reasonable ADP, but somehow start rising up the boards rapidly. Typically it is not due to preaeason performance, but just plain hype. Last year, I remember Bryce Harper was being drafted in the late first or early 2nd round, mostly, but by the time the live drafts were happening, he was drafted as high as 4th overall. This year there are several names that have already been discussed on these boards as big movers, including the aforementioned Harper, Billy Hamilton and Tanaka. What other guys do you think will start moving up rapidly as the season approaches. My thoughts are, I think Hamilton continues to move up, especially if he seems to be hitting the ball and batting first during spring training. In addition, I believe solid middle tier pitchers such as Kris Medlen and Mike Minor will move solidly up into the top 80 or higher. Thoughts on future fast risers?

Braun with a HR. Just a gut feeling he will be one if the only first round values this year, ie, will finish in top 4 overall

Gregory Polanco looks like a stud - Maybe he gets called up earlier and is a ROY candidate?

No chance of early call. Early/mid June would be starting point

Or he beats out Tabata and starts the season with the team as their starting right fielder?

Yes. The Pirates are as win-now as they can be, so it would not surprise me if they didn't worry about starting the clock. McCutchen, Marte, Polanco...awesome!

If Khris Davis keeps stealing bases like he did today, I'd guess he'll jump up a couple of rounds.

So far I haven't picked him this year but if he's adding SB numbers I'll certainly consider it from now on.

Billy Hamilton, Rosenthal, Tanaka, Jose Abreau, Wacha, Cole, Will Myers. I also have seen Matt Adams go way sooner than he should in some drafts.....People love to overpay/over draft "the next big thing" and take a small sample size or minor league stats and extrapolate them in ridiculously gaudy projections.....Its like 2012 when Hosmer went 6th overall in a draft, ahead of Votto and Prince...Brett Lawrie was a 3rd round pick, because "he could have a 30/30 season" and Dee Gordon "might steal 75 bases"....

Agreed.
The young always come with that 'What could be' aura. They are hyped beyond what they will be able to accomplish.
Happens every year.
I expect Hamilton to be in the third or fourth rounds in Main events if he makes the Reds as their starting center fielder.
The thinking won't be that he gets to start at the MLB level. The thinking will be that he will help carry a fantasy team with tons of stolen bases.

Not just "what could be" aura, but "what could be RIGHT NOW!!!!" expectations....as if everyone will be a Mike Trout/Yasiel Puig/Jose Fernandez kind of of rookie....But those guys were either late-round picks or waiver claims. Not 5th rounders.

Kudo's to Jeff Erickson's article for Rotowire. He brought up a great point on Hamilton. His risk is two-edged. One way, take him and he flops and since you probably didn't draft much speed after him, you are no longer in the top third but left behind in SB. Or you draft him and there is a chance to run away with the category. Winning a category by more than one doesn't help you and maybe that early round pick could have helped you in multiple other categories.

Billy = Dee (no Star Wars references please)

This is how I feel about Bryce Harper. He won't be a mover since he's already 1st round ADP but until he's proven himself, I can't get onboard with the hype.

Alright, this thread has moved on from biggest movers to biggest flops. Here are a few for me...

No matter where Matt Kemp is picked in the first 10 rounds....flop
Shortstop kicks Tulo's ass, until his stocky frame changes position...flop
What a great body. Too bad it's wound so tight and hits in a huge ball park. Anybody named Giancarlo....flop
I never know why. I've just never drafted him or wanted to. Hunter Pence...flop
A stock that flies, then when we invest it fails. That is the feeling I get if I draft Starling Marte....flop
