Wondering how and if anyones mid-season draft strategy differs from their original strategy (besides the obvious).

Also curious to see if more SP's are drafted early because of the several who have proven themselves worthy through half a season or will people stray from them just the same as they did in the original draft.

Does anyone have their top 15 for midseason? I kinda think there might be more differentiation between peoples top 15 now, then there was at the beginning of the season.

I would be surprised if Ryan Howard and Thome didn't make it into the top 15. I think some people are willing to put Thome up near the very top which seems silly. Jose Reyes almost has to go sometime in the first. If you were coming up on pick 15 and Berkman wasn't gone yet, it'd be hard not to take him considering what he's done. Soriano will go in the first, of course.

I don't know if people trust Mauer to keep it up enough to put him into the first round, but I can't see him going later than 2. What I learned on draft day was that people just don't like Matt Holliday. I got him in round 8 in a satellite and his ADP was 68--5th round. He looked just as good then as he does now so maybe people still won't want him. He is a bargain in any round.

Players you won't see in the first: Teixeira, Abreu, Figgins. There might be some surpises too: Guerrero, Bay, Cabrera, and Lee might get pushed out.

I can't see pitching going any earlier on the whole. Santana will probably stay in the first and Clemens will take over Peavy's job as the second round guy. Someone will probably be foolish enough to take Clemens in the first round in one of the drafts.

I'm not playing, but it will definitely be interesting to see the results.

Holliday's a stud. I can see all of what you said easily happening, but Howard and Thome in the first is pushing it. It can sure happen, though. Mauer in the first would be nutz, but if he hit .400 it'd make you look pretty smart.

Personally, I would tend to think that while Mauer is very good, he won't hit .390 in the second half, but he's probably proving himself a worthy 2nd round pick. I can see power and SB's going up a bit even while the average drops off.

Howard belongs in the first to me. Thome seems risky in every way and I'd never take him, but I saw some people suggesting he has more value than Pujols in another thread, hence, my 'silly' comment.

Interesting topic. What I'd like to see in the mid-season league draft is how high some typical undrafted guys guys go. Guys like Freddy Sanchez, Dan Uggla, or Josh Johnson. I agree with Bjoak that Mauer probably won't hit .390 the 2nd half, but it isn't beyond the realm of possibility that he hits .320. Guys like Sanchez could go from hitting .350 in the 1st half, to hitting .250 in the second. Without a history or pedigree, it's tougher for these guys to live up to their first halves. Sniffing out the haves and have-nots within this group may be a key.

Not only with the new guys, but with the old guys as well. For instance, how much faith does a midseason drafter put in Nomah, Baldelli, or Griffey? (not that Baldelli is old, but you know what I mean)

I would draft Liriano ahead of Clemens. I would consider him the next pitcher after Santana. The only concern with him would be the number of innings and pitches he's thrown.
