Thumbs down

Ryan Braun is hitting in the designated hitter spot in Friday's game versus the Red Sox because he's having problems with his right thumb again.
Uh oh. Braun's thumb first started bothering him in May of last season, but he dealt with it for a couple weeks before finally going on the disabled list. He admitted Friday that the thumb is numb due to a nerve issue, which has led to blisters because he can't tell how hard he's gripping the ball. He could undergo surgery, but there's no guarantee it will work so he's not even considering it as an option at this time. Braun will attempt to play through the ailment for now, but he tried to do that last year and it became problematic. Needless to say, it's really crummy news for fantasy owners that used a first-round pick on Braun this spring.
